News Release:

Seeking additional resources, PBOT receives assistance from sister agency, Seattle Department of Transportation

(January 11, 2017) The Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) is set to receive additional resources from the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) to help speed the plowing of Portland streets and the clearing of downed trees. SDOT will send snow plows, tree removal equipment and crew members to Portland to work with PBOT crews starting Thursday morning.

When the severity of the most recent storm and the size of the clean-up became apparent, Mayor Ted Wheeler and Transportation Commissioner  Dan Saltzman encouraged PBOT to seek additional resources to support the bureau's efforts. In the course of this effort, PBOT and SDOT communicated about the situation in Portland and SDOT made a generous offer of assistance.

"With a storm of this magnitude, I felt it was extremely important that we do everything we could to get our streets clear and to keep Portland moving safely," said Commissioner Dan Saltzman. "I'm extremely grateful to Seattle DOT for the offer of assistance."

SDOT will send a total of eleven trucks and fifteen crew members to Portland. The equipment on its way to Portland includes four heavy duty and four light duty plows, an aerial lift for downed tree removal, a wood chipper and a chain saw crew truck. Leaving Wednesday evening, the Seattle crews will join PBOT crews at the start of Thursday morning's shift.
