The Vision Zero Action Plan describes 32 actions Portland can take to make streets safer for all users. Vision Zero implementation for PBOT, other City bureaus, partner agencies and community organizations will begin immediately:
-
Near term: Focus on numerous Vision Zero actions already underway, such as installing more speed safety cameras, setting new speed limits that prioritize safety for all users, supporting safe travel through work zones, and changing street designs, including through many projects already funded through Fixing Our Streets
-
Certain actions will take more time, including revising Oregon's distracted driving laws, securing stable funding for street safety, enhancing crash data reporting, and forming street teams to lead local street safety efforts
-
Yearly basis: Expect annual reports on Portland's progress on each Vision Zero action item and the overall goal of eliminating deaths and serious injuries
Public involvement and support will be critical to achieving Vision Zero. The Vision Zero Task Force will continue meeting to oversee efforts and, when necessary, shift tactics to ensure safety goals are met.
The Vision Zero Action Plan is a plan developed by Portlanders, for Portlanders. Thank you to the Vision Zero Task Force and community members for helping to develop and shape the plan.
