Have you heard about Paid Leave Oregon?
Paid Leave Oregon is a new program passed into law in 2019 and administered by the Oregon Employment Department. All OYA employees pay into and may receive benefits from Paid Leave Oregon. The program provides employees easy access to paid leave benefits for events that impact our families, health, and safety:
-
Family Leave – to care for a family member with a serious illness or injury; or to bond with a new child after birth, adoption, or foster care placement.
-
Medical Leave – during one’s own serious health condition.
-
Safe Leave – for survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, harassment, or stalking.
If you qualify for Paid Leave Oregon benefits, you will be paid a portion of your wage while you are out on leave. These benefits are paid for through a trust fund to which both employees and employers contribute.
Starting Sept. 3, 2023, employees will be able to apply to Paid Leave Oregon for benefits if they have a qualifying life event.
Changes to January 2023 paycheck
Beginning with your Jan. 3, 2023, paycheck, a Paid Leave Oregon contribution will be deducted from your wages (60% of 1% of your total wages). For example, if you get a paycheck for $4,000, your Paid Leave Oregon contribution will be $24 (1% of $4,000 is $40, and 60% of $40 is $24). More details about the contributions can be found in this Paid Leave Oregon Fact Sheet.
As a reminder, this will also be the first check you will receive from the new Workday Payroll system, which goes live on Dec. 1, 2022.
