Japanese Cedar Longhorned Beetle in Oregon

  • The Oregon Department of Agriculture has detected the presence of the Japanese Cedar Longhorn Borer (Callidiellum rufipenne), a new pest to the state, in Portland after a tip from the public in 2023 and subsequent trapping in 2024.
  • This wood boring beetle can attack and kill arborvitae, cedars, junipers, and other culturally and ecologically valuable host plants in the Cupressaceae family.
