Food workers throughout the global supply chain are on the frontlines of the COVID-19 crisis. In order to provide support and resources to Oregon’s food processing industry the Oregon Department of Agriculture (ODA), the Oregon Health Authority (OHA), and Oregon Occupational Safety and Health (OR-OSHA) created an agency playbook and employer toolkit.
When one or more cases of COVID-19 are associated with a food processing facility a coordinated response of support and consultation is necessary in order to help mitigate and slow the spread of COVID-19. This coordinated strategy includes both a prevention guideline toolkit for food manufacturers as well as response efforts for state agencies that will be used to support this essential industry.
The goal of these documents is not enforcement, but rather to:
- provide clear coordination between agencies,
- to educate and support the food processing industry to mitigate and slow the spread of COVID-19,
- and to ensure the continuation of the critical function of food production.
It is important to ensure that food processing facilities can continue to operate and minimize any down time. This is especially vital for certain sectors of processing such as highly perishable commodities like dairy, seafood, fresh fruit and vegetables.
Use the toolkit to make a plan for COVID-19 mitigation in your food processing facility.
Use the playbook to see the agency roles, the process, and the response protocols for each agency when responding to COVID-19 in food processing facilities.
