What We're Up To
-
On May 12, we held our final Governance Council meeting for the 24–25 school year. Thank you to all members for your involvement! We’ll reconnect in September. This year, the Council approved our investment plans, helped select books, evaluated Family Support Mini-Grant applications, and reviewed our How-to-Raise a Reader toolkits. You can find the Toolkits on our website.
- On May 21, we opened another Little Free Library in partnership with ODHS—this one at the Self-Sufficiency Office in Seaside. While you’re there, stop by the Child Welfare office next door to view the Hexagon Project in the waiting room. These new ODHS offices at the Seaside outlet mall are thoughtfully designed, and staff are available to help with ONE system benefits.

Parent Perspective 👪
Thank You, Family Leadership Council! As the year wraps up, we’re deeply grateful to our Family Leadership Council members. Two cohorts—one Spanish-speaking and one in English—met virtually from October to April, then joined for their first in-person, family-friendly event in June.
Family Leaders: Your insights, energy, and commitment made this year impactful. We explored resilience in “Life is Tough, but You are Tougher,” hosted Parent Cafés, and built advocacy skills through the “Tell Your Story” workshop with the Children’s Institute.
Thanks to this work and our learning around Family-Centered Design, we received a $15,500 grant from the Early Learning Nation Collective! These funds will support our Family Leadership Council in 25–26.
Pictured: The daughter of a Spanish-speaking Family Leader who went to Salem for advocacy work. Her mom, Jennyfer, credited the Council for helping her build confidence. Thank you for sharing your story—we’re proud to learn with you!
We’ll keep you posted on exciting plans for next year’s Council!

Register for Kindergarten Today!
Is your child turning 5 on or before September 1st 2025? If so, it's time to register for Kindergarten!
Per ODE, When families register for school in the spring, they have more opportunities to:
- share information about their child’s strengths, interests, and needs;
- participate in summer transitioning into kindergarten programs;
- sign-up for school meals, bus transportation, and before and after-school programs; and
- meet other families during school events and start the year off right!
Visit your local school's website or give them a call for more information on how to register.
