Oregon Virtual Education
One flexible curriculum option with both Higher Education Career Path Skills and Personal Finance Education courses is Oregon Virtual Education (ORVED). To meet PFE content standards, ORVED is offering a Personal Finance and Money Management course - view the standards crosswalk here. To meet HECPS content standards, there is a Career Research & Decision Making course - view the crosswalk here. Both courses are estimated to take between 16 and 18 weeks and at the end of the course students will earn .5 credits.
Most commonly, students work this course as an independent study with an ORVED teacher. They are allowed to complete the course at their own pace but will have a firm deadline on course completion. The date will vary per enrollment date. Accessing ORVED via this traditional model is $415 for most students but there is subsidized pricing available for limited districts at $120 per student.
Another method of access includes district teachers hosting the course at $240 per student. This method requires district training with a price varying for the number of teachers to be trained. More information can be found on their website.
If you’re interested in learning more visit orved.org, or contact the ORVED Program Coordinator at mmercer@orved.org.
PeerLearning.net
Another great curriculum resource is PeerLearning.net. This curriculum emphasizes jigsaw lessons and peer tutoring. Free to use with no complicated software installation or data integration. Learn more about their services on their website.
Senate Bill 3 - HECPS Support Group
We are one year closer for districts to begin implementing Personal Finance and Higher Education Career Path Skills courses to meet the Senate Bill 3 requirements. Over the past year, we have met with district leaders taking the lead on SB3 requirements and composed resources to help. The most commonly accessed resource is this Senate Bill 3 curriculum options spreadsheet. This resource provides an easy to access list of courses that meet either HECPS or PFE content standards - targeted grade level, curriculum duration, cost, and links to crosswalks can be found on the spreadsheet. If you have any suggestions for the sheet - please email us at careerpathways@nwresd.k12.or.us.
To continue supporting our districts, we will also host 3 support groups during the 25-26 school year, specifically for the High Education Career Path Skills. Meetings will be virtual and held on November 4th, January 20th, and May 7th. If you are interested in joining this group (recommended for district leaders) please contact us.

The University of Portland STEM Education and Outreach Center is offering a self-paced on-line professional development opportunity! Bob Butler, UP professor emeritus, has developed a course entitled Cascadia Earthquake Education. The course is organized into four modules which introduce plate tectonics and earthquakes and then connect this general knowledge specifically with Cascadia earthquakes and tsunamis. Within each chapter, a video lecture (or series of video lectures) introduces the topic, along with additional video lectures and animations. Most chapters contain lesson plans for classroom activities and demonstrations. These lesson plans were designed for middle school students but can be adapted to elementary and high school levels. Each lesson plan specifies the Next Generation Science Standards addressed. Most lesson plans have an accompanying set of supporting resources such as student worksheets and answer keys. It is estimated that it will take about 28 hours to complete the course, so successful completion of the course will result in your receiving a certificate for 28 PDUs. If you have an interest and would like to register for the course, please send your preferred email to Bob Butler butler@up.edu. You will then receive information on how to access this free on-line course!
