Portland Area Career Technical Education Consortium (PACTEC) and Portland Metro STEM Partnership are teaming up with Northwest Regional ESD's CCR team to host educator externships in Columbia, Washington, and Multnomah counties. Register by June 9th.

During the 2023-24 school year, 20 school counselors, school to career specialists, and transition specialists met 5 times (twice in person) to implement empathy interviews into their program and to collaborate with job-a-likes.
NWRESD is excited to announce we will continue this series into the 2024-25 school year. We will move away from empathy interviews and implement some of the suggestions we received at the last session. We will have 35 slots available and welcome previous attendees to join the collaborative again. More details to come.

In this computer science professional development, content teachers and counselors from across the region will participate in a one-day professional development to help them learn how to implement computer science into their every day curriculum (with a focus on engaging female-identifying students.)

What is Junior Achievement Biztown?
JA Biztown is a capstone program which combines in-class learning that culiminates to a day-long visit to a simulated town. Students have the opportunity to play roels such as citizens, workers, and consumers during their simulation and learn the importance of rights and responsibilities in a community. Students also learn about soft skills necessary for world of work. This program is recommended for grades 4-6. Watch this video to get a better idea of what the day is like for students.

What is Junior Achievement Finance Park? Similar to JA Biztown, JA Finance Park is a capstone program designed for personal finance learning. This specific program helps students build a foundation on which they can make informed financial decisions as they grow older and begin to enter adulthood. Students are assigned random adult identities and walkthrough setting a budget with their hypothetical salary and various life events. ODE is soliciting survey feedback from all cogs of the K-12 public school system including staff, community members, parent/caregivers and more. They are interested in obtaining information to re-imagine how we support and improve Oregon’s public schools. These perspectives will be synthesized into shared values that can help define an accountability framework that best represents and actualizes those values.

Summer Agriculture Institute is a week-long professional development program for Oregon educators. SAI encourages attendees to use agriculture as a context for teaching academic standards.
Participants earn 3 graduate-level credits from Oregon State University for only $800, which covers meals, housing, transportation, and tuition. Educators receive hands-on instruction and materials to incorporate agriculture into their classroom curriculum. Please visit the Summer Agriculture Institute to find the fact sheet and application.

Did you attend the 2023-24 ACTE Conference and are you a school counselor? If yes, you have the opportunity to earn a $200 stipend to attend either ACTE Vision in San Antonio, Texas or ACTE Policy Seminary in Washington, D.C.
More details can be found on their Google application. Complete by June 21st, 2024 at 5 pm to be considered for the stipend.
*Applicants must be members of ACTE and CCD Division for the 2023-24 and 2024-25 school years.
