Advanced Manufacturing Grant - Educator Workshops

We are seeking educators to join our four-part workshop series on recruiting and supporting diverse, underserved youth in advanced manufacturing pathways. This is a grant-funded opportunity that is open to educators in Washington County.

Workshops will be held at various Manufacturing Industries one day a month in February, March, April, and May.

This is a paid opportunity for Washington County Educators.

Winter Educator Roundtable discussing Pre-Apprenticeships and Apprenticeships with an industry expert - more details coming soon!
Save the date: Oregon Computer Science Teachers Association Spring Conference on Saturday, March 18, 2023. The location is TBD.
Help your artistic students share their work in a professional art gallery! Hip 2B Square (a student art exhibit; students are able to participate for free) will be hosted by Sequoia Gallery in Hillsboro. More information will be available on their website later this month! Student art will be displayed for the entire month of April 2023.

Universal Sub Plans - Career-Specific

Do you need help putting together a simple lesson plan for an unexpected absence? Check out the Universal Lesson Plan created by Careers Journeys.

The lesson includes all necessary resources such as a YouTube playlist, teacher prep, discussion questions, and extended learning activities.

This lesson can be designed for middle school and high school aged students.

Scholarships for Students!

CASA of Oregon

Casa of Oregon's Sister Adele Scholarship is a need-based scholarship to encourage and provide Oregon-based individuals of farmworker families financial support to further their academic or technical education.

ACPE Northwest

ACPE is a $3,000 scholarship intended for students currently involved in technology-related academics and are interested in pursuing a career path in technology.

OMIC Scholarship

PCC's OMIC Scholarship (available through the PCC Foundation) is intended to support students from Columbia County interested in education and training for careers in advanced manufacturing.

School Spotlight

Working Lands Day was hosted at Tillamook High School in November 2022. Many local companies gathered to talk to students about the various career pathways within their companies. Companies included: Weyerhaeuser, Hampton Lumber, Jacobson Salt Co., Trask Fish Hatchery, and more.

In addition to speaking with working professionals, students also had the opportunity to virtually drive a milk truck through snowy roads with Tillamook Bay Community College's commercial driving simulator.

Industry Partner Spotlight

The Sheet Metal Institute offers training for sheet metal and HVAC apprenticeships. The full-time staff at the institute has more than 200 years of combined sheet metal experience as well as 40 year of teaching experience.

The institute is willing to lead tours for groups of students. If there are less than 12 students in a group, the institute can introduce a group project for your students!

Junior Achievement

Are you a fan of Junior Achievement? Get excited because next year a new site will be opening in downtown Hillsboro above the Civic Center. NWRESD and Junior Achievement have partnered together to offer a more convenient location for Junior Achievement facility for students in our region. Beginning in February 2023 - make sure you schedule your visit at Junior Achievement for the Hillsboro location!

If you aren't familiar with Junior Achievement, they are the creator of Biztown (designed for 5th graders) and Finance Park (designed for high schoolers). In both programs students study in-class curriculum, experience a real-life simulation, and a classroom debrief.
