Each August, we hold an all-staff inservice where we gather to set the tone for the year, celebrate and connect with colleagues, and get foundational training for the school year ahead.
Professional learning makes up a significant part of the services we provide to our component school districts and their communities. You and your colleagues are professional educators and trainers. We would love to feature your expertise and skills at this event! That’s why we are calling on you to submit proposals for workshops, especially for areas our employees have requested more support.
How to submit a proposal: Share a proposed workshop name, one paragraph summary and list the presenters (it could be just you, or you and several co-presenters including staff, students, parents or other community partners). Send proposals to communications@nwresd.k12.or.us by Friday, June 10.
Our employees have requested more support via staff suggestions and staff surveys in the following areas, but all proposals that will help us better support students and educators will be considered.
- Neurodiversity in the workplace
- Advocating for equity, antiracism and your students in the context of complex systems and white supremacy culture
- Family engagement and partnership
- Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 in the virtual workplace: Creating accessible documents, videos and resources for blind/visually impaired recipients, deaf recipients and others with disabilities
- Incorporating student and family voices into program design and decisions
- Intersectionality (e.g. How are body size, educational attainment, economic status or disability status experienced differently depending on a person’s race?)
- Self-care, interpersonal skills and other techniques for creating a happy, supportive team/work environment especially during times of stress
- Technical training and productivity optimization in Google, Zoom and other applications frequently used at NWRESD
- Working with and interpreter and/or creating multilingual resources
This year’s inservice will be held virtually on Tuesday, Aug. 30.

Students learn how to build and program robot vehicles.
The Oregon legislature recently committed $50 million in funding for summer enrichment programs through House Bill 5202. The funding is available to insured nonprofit organizations; tribal governments; and public agencies including libraries, parks and recreation departments, churches and colleges that provide community-based programs to students in Oregon.
Community organizations working with students and families who reflect the diversity of our communities will be prioritized for this funding. The goal of the grant is to give students a safe, supportive and enriching summer learning experience. Priority populations include students of color; students experiencing disabilities; students navigating poverty, homelessness or foster care; students who are learning English; and others who need more opportunities.
Programs should provide creative spaces for students to participate in hands-on projects and give them the opportunity to explore their interests and possible career paths.
