For back-to-school health and safety updates, please visit our Safe Start, Strong Start page. This page now includes the following resources in several languages:
- Health and safety tips for students and households
- Supporting children and families during quarantine and isolation
- Reminders to keep ill students out of school
You will no longer be verbally screened for COVID-19 symptoms when you enter NWRESD buildings. Please visit the building access information page to review all of the guidelines.
DO NOT show up to school or work with any signs of illness, including cold-like symptoms.
Please note, we are no longer offering a $100 vaccination incentive to staff now that the governor has mandated vaccinations for all school staff.
The deadline to select benefits plans is this Wednesday, Sept. 15. Even if you are opting out, you are required to sign into your Oregon Educators Benefit Board (OEBB) account during open enrollment. The benefit year runs Oct. 1, 2021, through Sept. 30, 2022. If you do not sign in to OEBB to enroll in benefits by Sept. 15, you will not have benefits after Sept. 30, 2021, and you will need to go through an appeal process with OEBB to reinstate your benefits.
To review the plans, pricing and incentives available to you, visit the benefits page on the staff intranet site. OEBB offers virtual, on-demand resources, information and videos at OEBBondemand.com.
Kathy Fernandez, human resources specialist, is hosting open lab sessions during open enrollment. You are invited to drop in during the times below or email kfernandez@nwresd.k12.or.us for a one-on-one meeting.

Lori Dyer is now an Instructional Coach on the early learning team at the Clatsop Service Center. She previously worked as a speech-language pathologist, also at the Clatsop Service Center, and has worked for NWRESD since 2010. |
Thank you to all of our educators for helping us keep our students, families and communities safe. We are so proud of our vaccination rates and we want to say thank you. We put together some NWRESD goodies to express our appreciation. By this Friday, please swing by your nearest service center to pick up your gift bag from the front desk.
In case you missed it, a mental health therapist who works at one of our social-emotional learning schools was featured in The New York Times this past July. Jillynn Garcia married her longtime partner Darla Sims Garcia on June 2 at the Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden in Portland, Oregon.
The two were previously married in San Francisco in 2004, but the California Supreme Court invalidated their marriage license six months later. Fast forward 15 years, and the women decided to tie the knot (again) on the 20th anniversary of their relationship.

Superintendent Dan Goldman wrote in his invitation to the family, “We are incredibly grateful for your demonstration of vulnerability, leadership and advocacy and our board of directors would like the opportunity to thank you.”
The board will receive a superintendent’s report, departmental reports, an update on NWRESD’s COVID-19 response and an update about the Student Success Act work NWRESD is doing with districts in the region.
