Street Surfacing Program Update
In 2023, the City sought a qualified Contractor to provide long-term, as-needed paving services. A 5-year contract was awarded with unit costs established at the time of bid and escalated only at renewals based on the ENR Construction Cost Index. Engineering staff is pleased to announce that since the award of the contract to Roy Houck Construction, the City has completed paving projects totaling 5.88 centerline miles of public streets, and an additional 1.9 centerline miles of roadway has been improved by private developments. All of this totals 7.78 centerline miles or 24.3% of the City’s 32.02 miles of public streets.
The map below shows the newly paved (or soon to be) areas along with the amount of the community’s investment by fiscal year. The current contract will end after this Fiscal Year, but staff is already in the process of preparing then necessary bid documents to procure a contractor and continue this highly successful program!
MOLALLA SKATE PARK REBUILD:
Where Should a New Skate Park Go?!?!
The Molalla City Council has taken an exciting first step toward replacing Molalla’s aging skate park by partnering with the Timateo De La Cruz Foundation, a local nonprofit working to help plan, fundraise for, and ultimately construct a new community skate park.
Molalla’s existing skate park has served the community for many years, but its aging features and limited design no longer meet the community’s needs. The vision is to create a modern, safe, accessible park that welcomes skaters and riders of different ages and abilities while continuing the community spirit that led to the original park’s creation.
The City has launched a kickoff survey to help the Council decide where the new Skate Park should be sited, it closes on October 19th.
Visit the Molalla Skate Park Rebuild page of the Molalla Current (current.cityofmolalla.com), take the survey, and help us build the next generation of Molalla’s Skate Park!
