CAPITAL PROJECTS: Bohlander Field Pedestrian Safety Improvements Update – Earlier this month, a contractor for the City began work of creating a “pedestrian safe crossing zone” and updating the ADA parking stalls. This work is scheduled to be complete by June of this year. The new “safe crossing zone” will place removable bollards on Shirley St. east of Park Ave, and west of Steelhead St., as well as locating a new entrance to the field in the Northwest corner. These improvements respond to a number of concerns and policies as indicated in the non-exhaustive list below:
- The rising threat of vehicle born attacks at large events; and
- The frustration and confusion surrounding the current traffic pattern; and
- The vehicle – pedestrian conflicts at the Buckeroo Entrance/Bohlander Exit; and
- The Comprehensive Plan Policy to work with the Buckeroo Association to upgrade and update the Buckeroo Event Center.
Chief Yelkus Park (below) Update – The project is progressing well and remains on schedule. The Large Coyote play structure, which features a log jam, wooden columns shaped like cattails, balance beams, and platforms, is scheduled for delivery and installation around mid-June. We expect to complete the project by mid-July to the first week of August. The City plans to hold a grand opening, and we hope to see everyone there!
New Police Department Facility Update – There is a lot happening as contractors and subcontractors work diligently to keep the project on track and on schedule. The construction phase for enclosing the building is nearly complete. The City recommends driving by at least once a week to observe the progress, as things are advancing rapidly. Please be aware that there will be some changes to pedestrian and traffic control as the project works on the frontage improvements for the new civic walkway in front of the building.
Lola Ave Sewer & Waterline Replacement – This summer, the City will continue its efforts to replace utility infrastructure. The project involves the removal of old sewer and water lines on Lola Ave, from 2nd Street to 5th Street, followed by the installation of new materials that meet today’s standards. Additionally, the project will include a full-depth street reconstruction. The City expects the work to begin in mid-June and continue through September.
Reconstruction of N Molalla Ave & Frances (Below) ST ADA Ramps & Crossing – The City is currently designing and constructing a new signalized ADA street crossing with accessible ramps at the intersection of N. Molalla Avenue and Frances Street. The project will include two accessible ramps that provide access to Molalla High School, which is located to the east on Frances Street. Construction is projected to begin in mid to late July and to be completed before the start of the new school year.
ABOVE: Alert! Roadwork projected to begin in June on the North side of OR-211 between Molalla Forest Rd. and Hezzie Ln. Please see the attached map for pedestrian and vehicle routing during the project.
PRIVATE DEVELOPMENT: As you all know, Molalla is a wonderful place to live, and this is evident in the numerous new developments taking shape in our small town. These developments include a variety of industrial, commercial, and residential projects. Here are a few highlights of new private developments in our City:
- The River Meadows Subdivision
- A new gas station located in the Cascade Center Development - Bear Creek Apartments
- A new industrial park off W Main Street, situated between Kennel and Dixon Avenue.
- Regarding Bear Creek Apartments, the developer is working with ODOT to complete the necessary frontage improvements from Hezzie to Ona Way. Please be aware of the traffic patterns in this area, as there will be lane shifts to accommodate the work being performed on the north side of the highway.
