Marion County Emergency Management had the opportunity to respond to a request for assistance from the Santiam Service Integration Team (SIT). Melissa Baurer, SIT coordinator, reported that they were receiving requests for generators from families adversely affected by the wildfire. The SIT team was looking for businesses that would provide these generators as a donation and/or at a reduced cost.
Marion County Emergency Management reached out to Fastenal and was able to secure three generators for these families; a donation valued at nearly $2,500. In addition, Emergency Coordinator Mike Hintz said, “We are thankful to have partnerships with businesses who will step up and assist with identified needs when possible.”
“The most requested item for residents returning to their fire affected properties is access to electrical power,” says Deana Freres, Santiam Canyon Wildfire Relief Fund coordinator. “This generous donation provides a direct, immediate benefit to address an essential need for families in crisis. Our heartfelt thanks from the Santiam Canyon.”

FEMA has approved the use of Direct Temporary Housing for Linn and Marion counties. The approval comes after a request from Gov. Kate Brown regarding the need for temporary housing solutions due to the devastating wildfires in Oregon. Homeowners and renters may be eligible but you must be registered with FEMA (see below for information on how to do this). Applicants with access and functional needs will be prioritized for accessible transportable temporary housing units.
