East Salem Town Hall

We had a great turnout of neighbors and businesses for the East Salem Town Hall on October 9. We covered topics ranging from lighting and public safety, to upcoming road projects and improvements, dog services, and more. For those who were unable to attend, you can watch the video of our live stream on Facebook.

For copies of meeting handouts and upcoming road projects visit the service districts web page. In the coming months we’ll be adding a dedicated East Salem page for information about the districts and upcoming projects.

We appreciate Chemeketa Community College's hospitality and thank them for providing meeting space for both the town hall and our Public Safety Coordinating Council meeting.

East Salem Service District Special Meeting Nov. 26

Street lights

The Board of Commissioners, meeting as the East Salem Service District Board of Directors, will hold a special meeting on Monday, November 26, at 2 p.m. in the Silverton Conference Room at Courthouse Square located at 555 Court St. NE, Salem.

At the town hall, we heard loud and clear that enhanced lighting is a priority for East Salem customers. At next week's special meeting the board will discuss creation of a single special assessment district for lighting services in the area.

The board will also discuss adopting a policy for adjustments to district fees, as well as making adjustments to public safety fees charged to specific properties. This will provide guidance for residents and businesses who wish to appeal fees.

The next regular meeting is scheduled for January 23, 2019. Email Marion County Public Works if you'd like to receive future meeting notices.

Public hearing on solid waste rates in areas outside of city limits set for Nov. 28

Garbage and recycling bins

The Board of Commissioners is holding a public hearing on Wednesday, November 28, 2018, at 9:30 a.m. regarding proposed changes to solid waste collection rates charged by franchised haulers in unincorporated areas outside of city limits (including East Salem).

The meeting will be held in the Senator Hearing Room at Courthouse Square located at 555 Court St. NE, Salem, during the commissioners’ regular board meeting.

The proposed rate changes will impact residential roll cart customers, commercial container drop box services, and medical waste customers. If approved, the new rates will take effect January 2019.

Factors contributing to increased operating costs for garbage and recycling haulers include increased fuel and recycling costs.

Additional supporting material for the public hearing will be available for review by 5 p.m. on November 21, 2018, on the Marion County website.
