Dear Friends and Neighbors,
Fall is officially upon us! The leaves are changing and the kids are back at school; for legislators, this means it’s time to start thinking ahead to the upcoming Legislative Session which starts in February 2015.

Senator Rosenbaum and Secretary of State Kate Brown encourage Oregonians to register to vote.
Don’t forget to register to vote in time for the November 4th General Election! This upcoming election will include choosing Oregon's Governor and a host of important ballot measures.

Ballots will be mailed starting on October 15th. If you do not receive a ballot you should contact your county elections office, whose contact information is available HERE.
Senator Diane Rosenbaum and Secretary of State Kate Brown at Milwaukie High School for National Voter Registration Day.
On September 23rd I celebrated National Voter Registration Day with Secretary of State Kate Brown at Milwaukie High School’s Advanced Placement Government class. We discussed the importance of voting, and answered the students' thoughtful questions about the issues of the day.
I was impressed by their interest and engagement, and was happy to help so many of them register or pre-register to vote. What inspirational young leaders and constituents we have in our district!

On Saturday, September 27th I had the great honor of joining U.S. House of Representatives Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici and Family Forward Oregon at their Women’s Economic Agenda Forum.
Along with Oregon State Representatives Jessica Vega Pederson and Jennifer Williamson, I spoke about Oregon’s long history of leading the nation with groundbreaking laws including the first wage and hour laws, parental leave and Oregon Family Medical Leave law that became the model for the national Family and Medical Leave Act, and Oregon’s minimum wage law that is the second highest in the nation and indexed to inflation.
Leader Pelosi then spoke to the Women’s Economic Agenda, which is focused on increasing the minimum wage, making childcare more accessible and affordable, and giving access to paid sick leave to all employees. These are issues that will positively affect women and their families. When women succeed, Oregon and the nation succeed.
I was honored to be invited to speak at this event, and left feeling very inspired to fight for these issues that I have championed for so long in the Oregon Legislature!
Economic Fairness Town Hall
with Rep. Rob Nosse
Senator Rosenbaum and Representative Nosse host an Economic Fairness Town Hall featuring panelists Lili Hoag, Elana Guiney, and Joyce De Monnin.
I had the great pleasure of hosting my first joint town hall with Representative Rob Nosse at the St Phillip Neri Church on Saturday, September 13th. We had a great turnout, and discussed many issues of economic fairness with a panel of experts and with our well-informed constituents.
Lili Hoag, the Policy Director at Family Forward Oregon, presented her organization’s efforts to implement paid sick leave for all workers in Oregon. She emphasized the tough choices many people have to make when it comes to going to work sick —No one should have to choose between sending their children to school sick, or losing their job.
Elana Guiney, Legislative and Communications Director for Oregon AFL-CIO, discussed at length the current push to raise the minimum wage. She spoke to the work of several stakeholders who hope to raise the minimum wage in Oregon without having to make any concessions such as tip credits or sub-minimum training wages.
Our final panelist, Joyce De Monnin, who is the Outreach Director for AARP Oregon, spoke to Oregon efforts to implement a statewide retirement savings plan. Such a plan would automatically enroll employees who lack access to a pension plan in a retirement savings plan which would be portable from job to job.
Afterwards, Representative Nosse and I answered questions submitted by the audience. As a longtime advocate for these issues, I was inspired by the passion expressed by our community. I look forward to working with Representative Nosse on tackling some of these economic fairness issues in the upcoming session.
