Rep. Darcey Edwards Highlights Key Work from the 2026 Legislative Short Session

SALEM, Ore. – State Representative Darcey Edwards (R–House District 31) is highlighting key legislative work from the 2026 Oregon Legislative Short Session, emphasizing efforts focused on public safety, accountability, and practical solutions for Oregon families and communities.

During the session, Rep. Edwards introduced and co-chief sponsored legislation aimed at protecting children, strengthening emergency response accountability, and helping families recover after disasters.

“Short sessions require focus and discipline,” Edwards said. “My goal was to advance common-sense policies that improve safety, support our communities, and ensure government is working responsibly for the people we serve.”

The session also included targeted investments and policy discussions affecting communities across House District 31, including support for local public safety infrastructure.

Key Legislation Introduced or Co-Chief Sponsored by Rep. Edwards

HB 4120 — Reduces fire risk in multi-unit housing.Helps keep smoking out of apartments, reducing the risk of structure fires and limiting exposure to secondhand smoke for children and non-smokers.

HB 4151 — Cracks down on abuse of the 911 system.Holds individuals accountable for using emergency services to harass political opponents and protects students and schools from false emergency reports.

SB 1561 — Helps families rebuild after disasters.Allows homeowners to restore or replace homes lost to disaster through a streamlined administrative process rather than a full land-use review, reducing delays and unnecessary red tape.

SB 1573 — Protects schools and childcare facilities.Prohibits syringe service programs from operating mobile or temporary locations within 2,000 feet of a school or licensed childcare facility.

Rep. Edwards was also instrumental in securing $173,000 through the state budget bill, HB 5204, for the Banks Fire District Capital Construction project, supporting improvements to local public safety infrastructure and emergency response capacity in the community.

“Local fire districts like Banks play a critical role in protecting our communities,” Edwards said. “Investments like this help ensure our first responders have the facilities and resources they need to continue serving our region.”
