Last Chance! Testify Against SB 1599
Your voice is needed! Senate Bill 1599 would move the transportation tax and fee hike referendum from the November 2026 general election--where it has already been certified by the Secretary of State--to the May primary election. More than 250,000 Oregonians signed petitions in record time to place this measure specifically on the November 3rd ballot, ensuring voters would have their say during the state’s highest-participation election. Those signatures were gathered with the clear understanding that the vote would occur in November's general election, and voters deserve to have that commitment honored.
Instead of allowing a full statewide vote, the majority party is attempting to fast-track the election into a low-turnout primary, where far fewer Oregonians will have a voice. If the case for these taxes and fees is truly strong, they should stand on their own before the broadest possible electorate, while allowing for ample time for Oregonians in favor or opposition to register their arguments in the voter's pamphlet. Both parties have acknowledged that ODOT’s budget can be balanced using existing resources, and Oregonians have consistently made clear they do not want higher taxes, so make your voice heard and tell lawmakers should respect the will of the voters and keep the referendum on the November general election ballot!
Register to testify here at Wednesday's public hearing, or submit written testimony by using this link between now and Friday at 1:00p.m. Over 4,000 Oregonians have already submitted testimony--with 99% in opposition--but the more, the better!
