Dear Neighbors and Community Members,
I wanted to provide a reflection following our joint town hall with Attorney General Dan Rayfield, Sen. Sollman, and Rep. Sosa last Friday, as well as information regarding our federal response legislation package.
If you attended the town hall, you will know there are a number of bills proposed to address the ongoing violence and chaos brought on by this federal administration. At the bottom of this message you will find a list of all of these bills, along with their summaries, committee assignments, and expected public hearing dates.
Â
We had a number of tough but incredibly important discussions, most notably regarding the violence we have experienced across our communities because of federal immigration efforts.
The consensus could not be more clear. We are hurting. We are angry. We are exhausted by the dehumanization of our friends, our neighbors, and ourselves. We demand justice for the 350 community members who have disappeared at the hands of federal law enforcement, a point so poignantly demonstrated by the attendees who held these signs up on their behalf.
Â
Â
I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude the 396 individuals who attended Friday's event. It is your perspective and experiences that better shapes our work in the legislature, and I thank you for thoughtfully engaging in this dialogue and the democratic process.Â
Below are the Oregon House and Senate bills addressing the federal administration's dangerous behavior. I support the goals of these bills, and am proud to sponsor of a few. If you have the time, I encourage you to register for testimony to share your perspective (which you can do via the links to each bill below). Testimony must be received within 48 hours after the start time of the committee meeting. This is your chance to continue your engagement and voice your support for tangible, state-level change! Do not delay!
