Like so many of you, I spent this weekend reeling over the murder of Alex Pretti, a VA ICU nurse in Minnesota. The violence we have seen from ICE, along with the inability to deescalate situations, is creating dangerous conditions for our communities and residents. What we are witnessing is heartbreaking and inexcusable. The federal administration’s decision to flip the narrative and paint those exercising their constitutionally protected rights as domestic terrorists is wrong. This must end.

Right now, we need to show up for one another. Check in on your neighbors. Consider attending a Know Your Rights training to understand legal protections and resources. If you are able, donate to the local organizations who help meet our community’s needs. Stay informed and speak out against injustice when you see it.

To those in Minnesota who are continuing to make their voices heard with powerful, peaceful protest below freezing temperatures, we are with you and thank you for your courage. This moment demands a coordinated community response. We are in this together.

This Friday: Joint Forest Grove Town Hall

I will join Attorney General Dan Rayfield, Senator Janeen Sollman, and Representative Nathan Sosa for an Oregon Priorities Town Hall in Forest Grove on Friday, January 30 at 6:30pm. We will be at Pacific University's Taylor-Meade Performing Arts Center. As we work to keep communities safe, protect consumers, seniors, and working families, and defend Oregonians' values, we want to hear what’s most important to you and your families.

This event is part of a statewide Oregon Priorities Town Hall series with AG Rayfield focused on hearing directly from Oregonians to shape legal strategies that protect the state’s interests. We hope to see you there.
