District Tours - Home Instead Hillsboro and Relief Nursery at Lifeworks NW

This week I enjoyed visits to Home Instead Hillsboro and Lifeworks NW. Home Instead is an organization that helps meet our aging population's needs by matching them with care providers to help them age in place. They employ over two hundred caregivers and serve clients across Senate District 15, Washington County and beyond. We talked about the challenge of rising health care costs and how that impacts their clients.

Later that day, I toured a relief nursery at Lifeworks NW in Hillsboro. We visited their therapeutic early childhood program (TECP) classroom and learned about all the services they provide to families, including home visiting, parent education, outreach and respite care. Relief nurseries provide extra supports that some kids and families need as they grow into pre-k toddlers, and transition to preschool settings. It was great to hear about the families they serve and see the little ones at play, with smiling faces.

Oregon Business Plan - 2025 Leadership Summit

On Monday, Team SD 15 attended the Oregon Business Plan Leadership Summit, where I was reminded of another reason why I love this work - Innovation. Collaboration. Dreamers. Doers. Investors. Bridge-builders. Business fuels our economy and helps pay for services each and every one of us depend on, including education, housing, healthcare and public safety. It allows for generational wealth building opportunity. 90% of businesses in Oregon are small businesses. With rising unemployment, increasing state-to-state competitiveness and industry innovation, we must answer the call to act. Opportunity is knocking and we need to #ListenLearnAct for modest growth and retention, without comprising the values Oregonians hold dear. Thank you to the Oregon Business Council and Oregon Business & Industry for another great summit.

In The News

PHOTOS: The Grinch makes nice with Salem Whos during green pancake breakfast, Salem Reporter, Hailey Cook, December 10, 2025.

The Grinch’s heart grew three sizes Saturday as over a thousand Salem Whos lined up to meet him and enjoy a plate of his green pancakes.

The fourth annual Pancakes with the Grinch was held from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Dec. 6 inside Columbia Hall at the Oregon State Fairgrounds. It was put on by Bridges Oregon, a nonprofit that provides services and advocacy for deaf and hard of hearing Oregonians...

...At 10 a.m., Oregon Sen. Janeen Sollman took to the Grinch’s throne to read from “How the Grinch Stole Christmas!” by Dr. Seuss. Oregon Rep. Kevin Mannix and Salem City Councilors Shane Matthews and Irvin Brown were also present.

Over 1,300 people attended this year, which is about 600 more than last year.

New law targets AI-generated explicit images as Oregon cracks down on digital deepfakes, KATU News, Victor Park, December 10, 2025.

A new law set to take effect in a few weeks will criminalize AI-generated sexually explicit images, expanding the crime of illegal intimate images to include digitally created, manipulated, or altered images.

This legislative move comes in response to a significant rise in AI-generated intimate deepfakes, which experts argue predominantly victimize women and children.

McDonald's - Forest Grove

This week I enjoyed a great visit to the Forest Grove McDonald's. The employees were an absolute joy to meet and Manager Rosie was incredible and bursting with pride for her team. Local owners, Jimmy and Jaime, are true community builders and staff motivators. This truly was a great visit and seeing all the Grinch fun was icing on the cake.

Holiday Grinch Readings

Last Saturday was a grinchfully wonderful day! Reading a grinchy tale to kids is my favorite thing to do during the holidays. I got to read at both the Bridges Oregon Annual Pancake Breakfast in Salem and at the Hillsboro Schools Foundation Barnes and Noble Bookfair in Hillsboro. My ❤️ grew THREE sizes that day!

Senate District 15 lies on Kalapuya land. The Atfalati were the northernmost band of the Kalapuya that lived along the Tualatin River in present day Washington County. Many of the Atfalati descendants are members of the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde Community of Oregon today. The Indigenous Peoples of this land experienced a painful history of colonial violence, sickness and removal from their land. The Atfalati are the foundation of Oregon's past and we must honor them well into our future.
