Here’s a quick reminder that we’ll be gathering this coming Saturday morning at 10:00am in the large room of the main Medford Library for our first—possibly not our last—combination Town Hall/Rogue Valley Food Drive. We ask you to bring a bag or box of good, unopened, non-perishable foods. We’ll gather it all up and get it to local food banks, which are struggling mightily to keep up as the federal government shuts down the SNAP program that shields 750,000 Oregonians from hunger.
Things are moving fast this week on the SNAP front; it might be partially restored this week. In the meantime, some households among us will have a very hard time feeding their families. Our event this Saturday will be one of many ways the Valley community is standing up to help them. It’s a privilege for us to be in a position to do that.
We want to boost the food banks’ supply even if SNAP is partially up and running by Saturday. They’ve been struggling more than usual since the feds cut their food supply by about 1/3 in the Spring, and the recent news shows how vulnerable the whole system is to the national political winds. The buffer between many Oregonians and severe hunger is wearing dangerously thin. This is our chance to make it a little bit sturdier in the Rogue Valley.
I’ll also share some of the view from Salem as the 2026 legislative session approaches. We know we’ll be responding to the mounting threat to our state’s future from this Administration. I’ll tell you what I know at this point about what that could look like. Plus I need to know what’s on your mind at this heavy moment.
Come join us Saturday. Let’s do what we can do together.
