We’re inviting you to an event next Saturday, November 8, unlike any we’ve hosted before—because this moment is unlike any we’ve seen before. A partisan political battle in Washington, D.C. is pushing millions of Americans, many here in the Rogue Valley, to the brink of catastrophic hunger. It’s stunning that we’ve reached this point…but here we are.
We hope you’ll join us in doing something specific about it. Besides encouraging you in this newsletter to extend extra support to over-stretched food banks, we want to gather with you in person to make a large aggregated donation to the outlets that feed our least advantaged neighbors…AND to reflect on what brought us to this moment, and what we can do to recover. I’ll share what I see coming up in the Legislature, and answer your questions as best I can.
So this meeting weaves together an immediate, concrete community response to the crisis with a conversation about what our longer-term efforts should be. I ask you to join us at this critical moment. I’m also asking, with full awareness that a lot of generous people are reading this, for a stretch to a new level of generosity. Please consider making a special shopping trip in order to bring a bag or two of nutritious, non-perishable food with you. We’ll be delivering everything to local food banks.
Thank you. Thanks for thinking about taking active part in this two-purpose event, and thanks for the various ways you’re already putting out concern and effort for our vulnerable neighbors.
