The time is now

The continued federal government shutdown means that 757,000 Oregonians, many of them children, will lose food assistance (SNAP) after October 31. The President announced today that he won’t try to access other funds, as he has for the military, to fill the gap. 

What you’re seeing in national news about the shutdown is a lot of finger-pointing as to which party caused this crisis. I have my own thoughts about that, but what matters right now is the reality that some of our Rogue Valley neighbors are about to get a lot hungrier.

If you need food assistance:

• Check EBT balances. Any unused SNAP benefits will stay available after Nov. 1, 2025.
• Keep following all SNAP rules, like completing renewals and telling ODHS about any changes. When the federal government reopens, ODHS will issue November benefits as quickly as possible.
