Our Friendly Neighborhood Attorney General

No doubt, emboldened and inspired by our last newsletter, Attorney General Rayfield has continued super hero ways, working with attorneys general from across the country (shall we call them the Justice League?), and standing up for Oregonians by suing the heck out of the Trump Administration.

With growing list on the DOJ website, here are some of the latest:

“This isn’t complicated – people need to eat”   Attorney General Dan Rayfield Sues Trump Administration for Illegally Suspending SNAP Benefits – The USDA claims there are no funds that can be used to provide SNAP benefits after Nov. 1. Our Attorney General Dan Rayfield knows the USDA has access to billions of dollars in specific contingency funds that are meant to be used in these circumstances, but the agency refuses to use them.

Protecting federal funding streams

• Attorney General Rayfield Challenges EPA Over Cuts to Solar Program that lowered energy costs for Oregon families. The Oregon AG and 22 other plaintiffs are suing the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin for illegally ending a $7 billion program.
• Attorney General Dan Rayfield and 19 other attorneys general filed a lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) to block new restrictions on federal funding that supports survivors of domestic violence and other violent crimes. 
• Oregon Attorney General Dan Rayfield joined a coalition of 20 other Democratic attorneys general to sue the Trump administration over its plan to dismantle the U.S. Department of Education.

Fighting the Unlawful with the Law

Attorney General Rayfield Condemns Trump Attacks on Nonprofits’ Freedom of Speech targeting nonprofits and charities based on their beliefs is ‘gross violation of First Amendment rights,’ attack on donor intent, and ‘deeply un-American’ Attorney General Dan Rayfield and a coalition of attorneys general issued a joint statement condemning President Trump’s baseless and unprecedented attacks.

• AG Rayfield: “The law is clear as to what Marion County should do. There is simply nothing for the court to resolve here.” Attorney General Dan Rayfield today asked a federal court to dismiss Marion County’s lawsuit regarding Oregon’s sanctuary laws.
• Oregon Attorney General Dan Rayfield issued a statement after the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals granted the federal government’s motion to stay the first Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) blocking the president’s order to deploy federalized Oregon National Guard troops to Portland.
• Attorney General Dan Rayfield and a coalition of state attorneys general are asking a federal court to take a closer look at a $14 billion merger between Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) and Juniper Networks — a deal the states say may have been pushed through under the influence of powerful lobbyists rather than sound competition.
