Hello Friends,
Representative Hòa Nguyễn passed away yesterday, surrounded by her loved ones. Hòa was my colleague and my friend. She believed in hope, hard work, and her duty as a servant to the public.
She brought with her a dedication to making the world a better place, especially for our youth. As a legislator, she was committed to helping families succeed and thrive, and the policies she championed directly reflect that.
One particular focus we shared is expanding access to affordable child care across Oregon. I am so grateful she brought me along in this work and invited me to co-chair the Child Care Caucus. Early this year, Hòa planned a statewide tour of child care sites to learn about successes and gaps each distinct region of the state was experiencing. It has been so informative and inspiring.
I woke up to this devastating news yesterday in Bend, a stop on our tour. I sat stunned in my hotel room, unsure if I should cancel or postpone. But I knew what Hòa would do: she would show up, do the work, and support Oregon’s kids.
So that’s what I did. I told the group about Hòa, who she was, her dedication, and her mission. We observed a moment of silence in her honor, and then we got to work.
I will miss you, my friend. Your sense of humor, thoughtfulness, zest for life, and love for your family inspire us. It was a privilege to know you.
You will be forever remembered.
