Legislative Updates

Laws going into effect FRIDAY, September 26th

More than 700 bills passed both the Oregon House and Senate this year, and many of those laws go into effect 90 days after sine die: Friday, September 26, 2025. Laws going into effect expand the housing supply and protect Oregon consumers, ultimately putting money in pockets of those who need it most. Cost of living and access to housing continue to be top priorities for Oregonians, and we are tackling those needs along with matters of safety and privacy in legislation taking effect Friday. Please see a sample of bills going into effect below.

Out and About for Senate District 15

Visit with Vietnam President Luong Cuong

Last weekend I joined fellow Oregon legislators, state leaders and top business advocates in meeting with Vietnam’s State President, Luong Cuong, during his stop in Seattle on his U.S. visit. He recognized (and was rather excited to speak about) Oregon's “Silicon Forest”. The President emphasized Vietnam’s commitment to deepening cooperation in technology, trade, and renewable energy. Global partnerships like this help build pathways to prosperity for working families at home and abroad. I was so honored to be a part of this bridge-building opportunity.

Unite Oregon - Community Celebration in Cornelius

Last weekend, I joined the community in celebrating the work of Unite Oregon in convening neighbors to seek positive change as Cornelius experiences growth. This event was in celebration of the completion of Unite Oregon's anti-displacement and anti-gentrification project with the City of Cornelius, as well as to honor the winner of the TV Highway Equity Coalition logo design contest. I appreciated the heartfelt stories and resolve.

Community Events

Last Saturday was a beautiful and fun-filled day to spend in community. I enjoyed Forest Grove's Annual Corn Roast and Chalk Art Festival, eating delicious corn and looking at all the beautiful chalk art creations. I finished the day at the annual OrencoFest in Hillsboro and it was top notch fun! Thank you to the City of Hillsboro and the Forest Grove/Cornelius Chamber of Commerce for all you do to make these events beautiful, community-building successes each year.

Come to the "Trashion Show" in Forest Grove this coming Saturday, Sept 27. The idea is to create an art piece, a costume, or an accessory from items you'd find in your recycling bin. Then bring your friends and family to Taqueria Corona in Forest Grove to show off what you've made. Or just attend to enjoy what others have created!

Neighborhood Collection Events

Shared from Metro

Free household hazardous waste collection events take place in communities across greater Portland on Saturdays in spring and fall.

There is no charge to bring your hazardous household garbage to Metro’s community events. Metro Central and Metro South transfer stations also accept hazardous waste from households for free. A small portion of your monthly garbage bill goes to help pay for these services.

Senate District 15 lies on Kalapuya land. The Atfalati were the northernmost band of the Kalapuya that lived along the Tualatin River in present day Washington County. Many of the Atfalati descendants are members of the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde Community of Oregon today. The Indigenous Peoples of this land experienced a painful history of colonial violence, sickness and removal from their land. The Atfalati are the foundation of Oregon's past and we must honor them well into our future.
