Many community members throughout the state are concerned about limited access to COVID vaccines due to federal policy changes. Last week, Governor Kotek and the West Coast Health Alliance announced coordinated winter virus vaccination recommendations, including the 2025–26 COVID-19 vaccine, influenza, and RSV.
The updated COVID-19 vaccines are now available without a prescription. People ages 7+ can get vaccinated at a pharmacy, clinic, or provider's office. Those between 6 months old and 7 years old can receive a vaccine from a medical office. It is a good idea to call ahead or book an appointment online as pharmacies and providers put these changes into place.
The Governors of Oregon, California, Hawaii, and Washington formed the West Coast Health Alliance (WCHA) as a unified regional response to concerns regarding the CDC’s credibility and scientific integrity under its current leadership.
These WCHA guidelines were developed with information from credible national medical organizations, like the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), and the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP). Vaccination is safe, effective, and the best protection available against respiratory viruses like COVID-19, influenza, and RSV.
