Oregon Infrastructure Summit

This week, the SD 15 team had the opportunity to attend the Oregon Infrastructure Summit in Seaside. The summit brought together state legislators and staff, state agencies, local governments and industry to talk about all things infrastructure- from resiliency, to housing, to Oregon's 23 public ports, to economic development, we heard how intertwined all of these issues are and how important economic development in Oregon is to our future revenue and funding streams. I look forward to continuing to explore ways of ensuring that Oregon's infrastructure can be supported by a diverse and thriving economy.

Remembering September 11th

This September marks the 24th anniversary of September 11, 2001. A day that profoundly changed our nation: 9/11. On this day, we remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost in this terrorist attack. We remember the unparalleled courage of the first responders, service members, and ordinary people who stepped into their roles as leaders in light of this terrible tragedy.

As we remember, we are not only reminded about the grief and sorrow, but also of the unity that followed. Out of this unimaginable tragedy, we witnessed extraordinary acts of courage, selflessness, and above all, our communities and country came together.

In honoring the memory of 9/11, we must recognize the responsibility upon us today: strengthening our communities through compassion and understanding. In a divided world, it’s important to remember that above all, we are united together by all being human. Let us carry these lessons of that day through action by supporting each other and working together for a safer and more united community.

Washington County Chamber of Commerce: 2025 Legislative Debrief

Yesterday afternoon I participated in the 2025 Legislative Debrief, hosted by the Washington County Chamber of Commerce with my fellow colleagues (not pictured is Representative Darcey Edwards). Former Congressman, Les Aucoin, joined us as well.

I spoke to the need for intense focus on economic development in our state. We know that we cannot continue to fund services in this state without a strong and diverse business environment. That includes money for our schools, money for programs that help Oregonians with basic needs, money to fund our public safety services, and more. Only when we have a  robust and thriving business economy can we succeed in other areas. I have spoken on this in the 2025 session and I will be continuing to work on this by focusing on economic development in the upcoming 2026 session.

Senate Concurrent Resolution 15 - Honoring Hector Hinojosa Robles

Earlier this week, I was honored to present my friend and constituent, Hector Hinojosa Robles with the parchment copy of Senate Concurrent Resolution 15, recognizing and honoring him for his remarkable contributions to the people of this state. Among the many contributions he has made to Oregon and Western Washington County, Hector brings community together, including people of all backgrounds and faiths. We all enjoyed a wonderful lunch at DarSalam in Portland, in honor of Hector.

Islamic Community Center of Hillsboro Open House

Rich diversity was on display at the Islamic Community Center of Hillsboro (ICCH) last weekend. The values, traditions, and contributions of the Muslim community in Senate District 15 are seen, felt and heard. The purpose of ICCH's open house was to bridge relationships in the community and have the opportunity to explore and learn about cultures, traditions, art and eat tasty treats! The world is a big place, but made smaller through connections like this.

Senate District 15 Nursery Visits

I am grateful to our local farmers and business owners who welcomed me on tours last Friday across the district. These visits were filled with honest conversations about the economy, environment, and labor—and a reminder of how vital it is that we support the people who work Oregon's soil.

9/11 will forever be a day we remember as a day that our nation faced unimaginable loss and pain. It was also a time we witnessed heroes in so many different spaces - those that ran into the buildings as others ran out, those that sat with perfect strangers to give comfort, those that helped perfect strangers reconnect with loved ones, those that fed the first  responders, those that worked around the clock to find survivors, and so on and so on. America showed the world we can be connected and care for our neighbors, that our super strength is our people and our hearts. The memory of 9/11 is heavy, but it also showed lessons of our resolve. Let's stop showing the world we are broken and frayed. They have seen the strength of America in the darkest of times. Let's all strive to be better neighbors again.

Senate District 15 lies on Kalapuya land. The Atfalati were the northernmost band of the Kalapuya that lived along the Tualatin River in present day Washington County. Many of the Atfalati descendants are members of the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde Community of Oregon today. The Indigenous Peoples of this land experienced a painful history of colonial violence, sickness and removal from their land. The Atfalati are the foundation of Oregon's past and we must honor them well into our future.
