Getting Out in the District
I have been trying to get out in the district more since the legislative session has concluded while balancing my full time job advocating for nurses. I am looking forward to more events and tours in the months to come.
Tour of Vigor Shipyard
I joined Councilor Novick with Neighbors for Clean Air at the Vigor Swan Island facility to learn more about the Portland Harbor Superfund site. We explored the dredging process, the path forward, and the environmental and community impacts of the work ahead.
I also toured the shipyard and was surprised to learn it’s home to the longest floating dry dock in North America. The scale of the facility and its history are a powerful reminder of Portland’s industrial legacy and the important work that is done here.
A huge thank you to everyone at Vigor for teaching us, showing us around, and for the critical work they continue to do for Portland and the Willamette as part of the Superfund cleanup effort and beyond.
Community Cook Out
I was grateful to be part of the 2nd Annual Community Cookout with the Kitchen Killa Culinary Solutions! They served 473 meals to our community in George Park.
Big shoutout to everyone who showed up, showed love, and helped remind us what community looks like! Free clothing, good food, good people and great energy all around!
I am already looking forward to next year!
Attending a Race at PIR
I brought HB 2738 to ban leaded gas at Portland International Raceway because of concerns raised by my constituents. During the public process for the bill, I heard directly from several folks of the racing community who shared their concerns. I believe it’s important to listen to those who may oppose legislation I bring forward, so that I can understand their perspectives and ensure a more informed dialogue.
I was recently invited to attend a Wednesday night drag race to learn more about the races firsthand and to engage directly with that community. It was a good experience to see the race from the inside and better understand the community’s perspective and continue the dialogue.
While I remain committed to eliminating the use of leaded gas near North Portland neighborhoods, I also believe that building relationships is the path toward solutions that balance the needs of the racing community with the health and wellbeing of residents in Nort Portland.

Advocating for Nurses In and Out of the Legislature
"As a nurse for over 20 years" is a phrase that I often and proudly state when talking about legislation. As the only Registered Nurse in the legislature, I take my duty to be the voice for nurses seriously. This session, we passed several pieces of legislation specifically for the nursing profession.
I will always show up for fellow nurses in any way possible.
Rally for Justice at Kaiser
I joined Oregon Federation of Nurses and Health Professionals (OFNHP) on August 7th to show my support for the workers during bargaining with Kaiser.
Workers deserve a fair contract that honors their contributions and provides the stability they need to care for their patients and families.
Kaiser says it values families, relationships, and work-life balance but those values aren’t being reflected at the bargaining table. That is not okay, and I am proud to stand with our healthcare workers.

SEI Annual Homecoming Party
I had a blast at Self Enhancement, Inc.'s Homecoming Fest. This was my first time to attend and I look forward to attending next year.
This event is an opportunity for folks who were displaced from North and Northeast Portland to reunite and connect where their families grew up. It gives Black Portlanders an opportunity to build fellowship and celebrate together.

Transportation Special Session
On Friday, the legislature will convene for a special session to advance a mid-term solution that prevents deep service cuts, protects jobs, and keeps our roads and transit systems running. This is an important first step toward a smarter, scaled-down approach to modernizing how Oregon funds transportation, without draining emergency reserves or sacrificing other essential services.
I know many of my constituents want to see funding for the North Portland Emergency Route in this transportation package, but it is unlikely at this time. That does not mean I will stop advocating for this project. I will be pursuing other pathways to make it a reality. My office has also been in conversation with U.S. Representative Dexter’s office about how we can work together to secure support.
