Senator Patterson Issues Statement in Response to Passage of Republican Reconciliation Bill

SALEM, OR – Today, Senator Deb Patterson (D-Salem and Chair of the Oregon Senate Committee on Health Care) issued the following statement in response to the passage of the Republican reconciliation bill in Congress:

“Today, Congressional Republicans passed H.R. 1, the so-called "Big Beautiful Bill." This is a dangerous piece of legislation that threatens the health and wellbeing of Oregonians across our state. While Republicans celebrate permanent tax breaks for the ultra-wealthy and large corporations. Oregon families, seniors, and rural communities will be left to pay the price.”

“This bill makes devastating cuts to Medicaid and Medicare, which tens of thousands of Oregonians rely on to access health care. This bill could force clinics to close, emergency rooms to cut services, and providers to turn patients away. Seniors across the state will face fewer care options, longer delays, and higher costs.”

“Oregon has long been a leader in health care innovation and coverage, but this bill undermines our progress. By gutting funding for health care, it threatens to undo years of work to expand coverage, improve outcomes, and protect vulnerable communities.”

“This is not what Oregonians asked for.”

“This Big Brutal Bill may look like a win for corporations, but it is a direct attack on the health and dignity of Oregon families.”
