Friends and Neighbors,

2025 Sine Die

The 2025 83rd Legislative Session came to an end late on the evening of June 27th. Team SD 15 was successful in getting a number of priority policies across the finish line. I am proud of all the work we did this session to help Oregonians - Work that included reducing impacts for utility ratepayers (HB 3546, HB 3179, SB 688), Eliminating harmful plastics like single use plastic bags (SB 551), and PFAS in firefighting foam (SB 91), and Public Safety wins - ending child marriage and exploitation (SB 548), mandating domestic violence and sexual assault training for judges (SB 710), and protecting against unlawful AI-generated intimate images and deepfakes (HB 2299).

I am honored to be your Senator and will continue to lead with the values I've always held - Listen. Learn. Act. As we enter the Interim, I look forward to connecting more in district and seeing you soon at an upcoming Community Conversation or Town Hall.

2025 Legislative Summary Reports and Dashboard - Legislative Policy Research Office

The Oregon Legislative Policy Research Office, or LPRO, has put together their 2025 Legislative Summary Reports and Dashboard. Our non-partisan legislative staff in Salem are the best of the best and put so much of their time and effort into policy research, analyses, and keeping the flow of session running smoothly. I thank them for this tremendous work and hope you enjoy digging into policy topics that came forward this session.

These reports summarize policy measures that received public hearings during the 2025 Regular Legislative Session, including bills, memorials, and resolutions. Measure summaries are organized into chapters by policy areas.

LPRO’s Summary of Legislation web page allows you to see all Summary of Legislation documents or browse by policy area. You can also click on the hyperlinks below to read the new Legislative Summary Reports.

Legislative Summary Reports (2025)

LPRO also provides an at-a-glance view of the policy measures in the Summary Reports through an interactive dashboard. The dashboard allows users to explore measures by policy areas and subtopics, learn whether the measures were enacted, or view measures by the chamber of origin. You can also use the search feature to find measures by their measure numbers or through key terms in the measure summaries. Try it out!

Layoffs at Intel in Oregon spark concerns of wider economic turmoil

KGW, The Story, kgw.com, July 8th, 2025.

This latest round of Intel layoffs comes on the heels of those at ODOT, amid a tough business environment in Oregon and national economic anxieties.

Lawmakers move forward on bill banning common grocery store item: 'They add unnecessary costs'

The Cool Down, Kristen Carr, July 1, 2025.

State Sen. Janeen Sollman, a Democrat from Hillsboro and the bill's chief sponsor, explained that "wasteful disposable plastics like thick plastic checkout bags aren't just annoying for consumers, they add unnecessary costs to our Oregon businesses, and are contributing to an ever increasing pile of plastic trash that is harming the environment and public health."

Celebrating 4th of July at the Hillsboro Parade

Last week, I enjoyed celebrating the 4th of July at the annual Hillsboro Rotary 4th of July Parade through downtown Hillsboro. It was a wonderful time of loving our country locally, building community and celebrating the role we each play in lifting each other up! Thank you to the City of Hillsboro and the Hillsboro Rotary Club for your hard work. The parade was a hit!

4th of July Evening Ride-Along with the Cornelius Fire Department

Later in the evening, I joined the Cornelius Fire Department for an eventful night. I wanted to experience what they go through on the 4th of July. We started the evening checking on where the July 4th neighborhood parties were, in order to map routes through narrow streets in case of a later incident. The firefighters were greeted by many kids wanting stickers and pictures. There were a lot of emergency needs across Washington County. My night ended close to midnight, as things started to calm down. Thank you first responders for being at the ready to help us in our time of need. The guys I joined from the Cornelius station were truly amazing to hang with - professional, patient with my questions and dedicated. Thank you to the Cornelius Fire Department for hosting me.

**PSA alert - clean your gutters before the 4th to avoid extra fire hazard.

Community Events

Since the end of the Legislative Session, I have enjoyed being back in district and attending events in the community, including Forest Grove/Cornelius Chamber of Commerce Rise and Shine with local business, and various markets across the district. I look forward to connecting with constituents and business owners each time I am out, to hear about their concerns and needs, and find ways to share resources and solutions.

Community Outreach

Plastic Free July

As a legislator, I champion policies that reduce plastic in our environment, like SB 551 that passed this session, banning the single use plastic bag at checkout. Plastics are forever chemicals that don't ever fully break down, creating microplastics that build up in our waterways, our air, our food supplies, and eventually back into our own bodies. Remember, it is reduce, reuse, then recycle. Take the Plastic Free July Challenge with me and reduce your dependence on plastics.

James Recycling

Looking for responsible ways to recycle your plastics? Please check out James Recycling. I have been to many of their past events, which receive great community turnout.

James Recycling is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization. At James Recycling we help keep the earth clean by recycling difficult-to-recycle plastics while empowering adults with developmental differences to find independence and purpose through meaningful employment. Find more information here.

Oregon leads the nation in implementing the Plastic Pollution and Recycling Modernization Act!

Senate Bill 582, Oregon's Plastic Pollution and Recycling Modernization Act, passed in 2021 and went into effect July 1st, earlier this month. Over the next few years Oregon residents and businesses can expect to see the following improvements:

  • Expanded recycling collection in many communities, especially in rural areas.
Producer funding will cover the cost of new equipment, facilities, and transporting recyclables long distances.
  • A consistent list of recyclable materials.
  • New collection opportunities for recyclables that can be hard to sort at recycling facilities.
  • Additional information and resources to let communities know how and when they can access this improved recycling system.

Senate District 15 lies on Kalapuya land. The Atfalati were the northernmost band of the Kalapuya that lived along the Tualatin River in present day Washington County. Many of the Atfalati descendants are members of the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde Community of Oregon today. The Indigenous Peoples of this land experienced a painful history of colonial violence, sickness and removal from their land. The Atfalati are the foundation of Oregon's past and we must honor them well into our future.
