Moving Right Along!

Friends and Neighbors,

It’s hard to believe that we are a little over a month away from the end of the legislative session. While we have accomplished so much these past few months, it’s during this final stretch that a huge portion of bills get passed, including the most divisive bills of the session. While the vast majority of the bills we consider are not partisan, there are a few “lightning rod” policies that pass along party lines and we will start to see more of these in the coming weeks.

One of the more challenging topics of this session has been the transportation package, which we need to pass to ensure that the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) has the resources it needs to deliver the basic services that Oregonians rely on every day. Transportation leaders on both sides of the aisle are working together to come up with a final version of the package to sustainably fund the Department. I look forward to reviewing the finalized version of the package in the coming weeks.

In the meantime, we are continuing to pass major deadlines to keep us on pace to get bills across the finish line by “sine die,” the constitutional end of session. As committees wind down and floor sessions ramp up, I am eager to continue working towards common ground to find solutions to Oregon’s biggest challenges.

Memorial Day

As a veteran, Memorial Day is of particular importance to me. I am so grateful to everyone who has served and I honor those who lost their lives in service to this country. Let this day be a day of remembrance, reflection, and gratitude as we pay our respects.

Out and About with Rep. Isadore

HD 17 Economic Round Table

hd 17

My fellow members of the House Committee on Economic Development, Small Business, and Trade and I met at the beautiful Willamette Valley Vineyards for a roundtable discussion of everything economic development for HD 17. We met with local leaders of a variety of different industries, including construction, timber, and wine production, to discuss strategies for well-rounded economic decisions that support all of our vital Oregon industries.

HD 33 Economic Round Table

HD 33 round tableHD 33 round table

The Committee's next stop was right here in HD 33 for an economic round table with local leaders and downtown businesses.

This was the fourth stop in a series of visits and roundtables that the committee has held across the state to inform the legislature’s work. For this visit, we had the privilege to host the round table at the site of what will be the James Beard Public Market in the heart of downtown Portland. We heard from over members of the business community about the challenges and opportunities they are facing, including Smith Tea, Orox Leather Co., DarSalam Restaurant, Powell’s Books, TMT Development, Portland Gear, Fried Egg I’m in Love, HILOS, Wildfang, Cheryl’s on 12th, and L'Mu Salon.

We heard from business leaders about their success and also the challenges they are facing. I was so inspired by their grit and creativity, and I’m committed to backing bold, thoughtful solutions that support our city and state’s economic success. Read more about the event here.

Salem Robotics Tour

I joined Representatives Dobson, Nguyen, and Diehl in touring Agility Robotics' RoboFab facility, the first full-scale humanoid robot factory in the world–right here in Salem! So good to meet with such innovative minds and consider the possibilities of where technology and our Oregon workforce can take us.

Broadway Corridor Tour

I was so excited to visit the site of what could very well be Portland’s newest neighborhood. Broadway Corridor would be a transformational project for Portland and for the entire state, redeveloping the 14-acre former post office property and supporting an estimated 2,400 units of new housing and roughly 4,000 jobs. The project is slated to break ground next year and will include over 450 affordable and middle-income housing units. I’m eager to return in 2028 and see this area bustling with families and businesses!

St. John's Parade

St. John's Parade

It was a beautiful day to celebrate 60 years of Portland’s oldest and only all-donation and volunteer parade! Since 1963, people from near and far have looked forward to marking the start of summer at the St. Johns Parade. It was so fun to see so many people out and about enjoying the floats, bands, drill teams, and horses. This neighborhood tradition is one of my all-time favorites–and a fantastic way to celebrate Portland alongside Representative Sanchez and Congresswoman Dexter!

SEI Gala

It was a pleasure to attend Self Enhancement, Inc's annual gala alongside so many community leaders including Rep. Nelson and OHA Behavioral Health Director Ebony Clark. SEI has been a pillar of the community since 1981, helping youth and families across the Portland area realize their full potential.

Legislative Updates

Bill Update

We recently passed a major legislative milestone! A bill that I was so proud to co-sponsor, HB 2007, was signed into law by Governor Kotek on April 23. This bill works in conjunction with another bill that was signed into law, HB 5047, to fund summer learning grants at $35 million and specify which programs qualify. Summer learning programs are essential for student literacy and success. I was pleased to see both bills pass unanimously in the House and can't wait to see the impact on academic outcomes as these funds roll out.

Bill Updates

Another legislative success! HB 3187 has been signed by the Governor and is now officially law. HB 3187 will prevent age discrimination by prohibiting employers from requiring or requesting disclosure of certain information regarding age and attendance or graduation dates. So proud to have been a part of passing this important legislation!
