Rally to Repeal Wildfire Map

A RALLY TO REPEAL THE WILDFIRE MAPS

Stomping out the wildfire hazard maps is a high priority for House Republicans. There was a rally held at the Capitol Mall on Tuesday, February 25th, where several House Republicans attended and voiced their support for a repeal. These maps are harming rural Oregonians by imposing oppressive regulations that are driving property values down and putting Oregonians at risk of losing their homes. It was good to see people at the rally in such high spirits; they were able to dance to YMCA in front of the building that had instated the maps just a few years prior.

We have listened, we have heard, and now it is time to act. The fight to repeal the map has gotten bipartisan support since the we called for a repeal of the maps.

House Republicans Slam Tire Tax Ahead of Committee Hearing

KQEN ~ On Tuesday, Oregon House Republicans strongly condemned efforts by House Democrats to raise the cost of living for Oregonians with HB 3362. A release from the House Republican Caucus said the Tire Tax would impose a 4 percent tax on tires sold in Oregon and send taxpayer funds towards rail transit, animal crossings and more. The GOP says none of the funds collected would go towards core functions of the Oregon Department of Transportation.

House Republican Leader Christine Drazan said, “Oregonians are frustrated by the rising cost of living and the Tire Tax will make it more expensive for families to drop their kids off at school, drive to work and pick up groceries”. Drazan said, “House Republicans want Oregonians to keep more of what they make and oppose new taxes that increase the cost of living”. The release said minutes before the Joint Transportation Committee held a hearing on the proposal, written public testimony opposing the Tire Tax was at 88 percent, or 1,556 transmissions opposing the tax compared to 12 percent, or 212 submissions, in support.

Vice-Chair of the House Revenue Committee Representative E. Werner Reschke said, “The Tire Tax is a direct attack on working class and rural Oregonians who have to drive longer distances to get to work. Purchasing new tires is already expensive and can often be a budget buster for many Oregonians”. Reschke said, “Tires are an essential product for family transportation, and taxing them does nothing to make life more affordable for Oregonians”.

Trump declares 'America is back' in speech before Congress

Fox News ~ President Donald Trump kicked off his address before a joint session of Congress Tuesday evening. "To my fellow citizens, America is back," Trump declared after thanking the members of Congress and first lady Melania Trump. "Six weeks ago, I stood beneath the dome of this Capitol and proclaimed the dawn of the golden Age of America," he said. "From that moment on, it has been nothing but swift and unrelenting action to usher in the greatest and most successful era in the history of our country. We have accomplished more in 43 days than most administrations accomplished in four years or eight years. And we are just getting started.
