Dear neighbor,

Welcome to my newsletter!

It's hard to believe we're already two months into this year's legislative session. Deadlines to pass bills out of committee for votes on the floor are fast approaching, and our work is getting busier by the day.

This session, I’m focused on passing legislation to improve our schools, make homeownership more attainable, and prohibit tolling on our roads.

As fast as the session is going, there’s still a lot of work to be done to help working families and small businesses across our state. And every day I come to work as your State Representative, I’m reminded what a privilege it is to represent our community.

Thank you for reading and joining me on this journey.

With gratitude,

Rep. April Dobson

Bills to Watch

  • HB 3503, which I introduced, will preserve dozens of affordable homes across Clackamas County. This week, it passed out of the House Housing and Homelessness Committee and is headed to the Joint Committee on Ways and Means.

  • Governor Kotek spoke before the House Education Committee in support of HB 2009, her proposal to increase accountability for Oregon schools. No doubt many of you have read about the recent nationwide report showing Oregon students' scores rank near the bottom of all 50 states in both reading and math. As a school board member and as a mother, I find that unacceptable. I'm grateful we're having a long overdue conversation about how to improve student outcomes, and I believe it's essential the Legislature advance this legislation alongside needed investments in early childhood literacy, summer learning, and fulling funded special education.

On March 7th, Rep. Daniel Nguyen and I met with local leaders and businesses to discuss the proposed Sunrise Corridor project. We are working to build connections within Clackamas County and to bring needed jobs and housing to our community with smart investments.

On February 27, I was proud to vote YES on House Bill 2010, helping to keep the Oregon Health Plan (OHP) funded. OHP provides life-saving healthcare to 1.4 million Oregonians, including half of all children in our state. Right here in Clackamas County, 25% of people rely on OHP for medical, dental, and mental health care.

Right now, the federal government is considering big cuts to Medicaid, which could take away some of Oregon’s OHP funding. We don’t yet know exactly what will happen, but I promise to fight hard to protect healthcare for Oregonians and keep OHP strong.

How Oregon is Responding to the Federal Administration

  • Oregon Attorney General Dan Rayfield, along with a coalition of 22 other attorneys general filed a second motion for enforcement in their ongoing lawsuit against the Trump administration’s illegal and destructive freeze of federal funding.
  • Oregon Location Privacy Law, HB 3899, which I am proud to co-sponsor, is currently in the House Committee on Commerce and Consumer Protection. This bill strengthens Oregon's privacy laws to protect consumer's precise location from being sold to the highest bidder.
