Friends and Neighbors,
I am excited to bring you the second edition of my newsletter, where I’ll be sharing updates on the work we are doing at the capitol, upcoming community events, and some of the ways you can get involved in the legislative process.
As your State Representative, my priority is making sure your voice is heard and that we are tackling the issues that matter most—whether it is housing affordability, education, public safety, or everyday household costs. In this edition, you will find updates on recent legislative efforts, key policies I’m working on, and how we can collaborate to build a stronger Oregon.
Your input is invaluable, and I encourage you to reach out with your thoughts, concerns, and ideas. Together, we can continue making progress for Oregon.
I had the absolute privilege of talking with students from Woodburn Arthur Academy. They were able to sit in on a House Floor Session!
Last week HB 2010, which ensures there is ongoing funding for the state’s Medicaid Program known commonly as the Oregon Health Plan (OHP), passed the House! The bill passed the Oregon House with a 40-15 vote, allowing it to advance to the Senate. If approved there, it will head to Governor Kotek’s desk. By making it through the Oregon legislature, HB 2010 would ensure program coverage by extending the state’s insurance and hospital assessments through 2032. While the future of federal funding for Medicaid hangs in the balance, Oregon representatives ensured that the 1.4 million Oregonians who rely on the program have access to the healthcare they need.
I am working on finding solutions to address several issues in our district. Here are some of the bills I believe will help not only our communities in House District 22 but every Oregonian:
HB 2531- Relates to services provided by the City of Salem. This bill appropriates funds to support fire response, emergency medical services, law enforcement, and public safety services for the City of Salem. Given the increasing demands on first responders and public safety agencies, this bill ensures they have the necessary resources to serve and protect the community effectively.
HB 3647- Relates to price display signs required for gas stations. This legislation requires operators of service stations and other retail fuel dispensing locations to display fuel prices visibly from the street and at or near each dispensing device. The ultimate goal is to enhance transparency for consumers regarding fuel pricing. Several constituents have reached out to our office about this issue, and I took a drive through the areas mentioned and saw firsthand why we need to address this issue. House Bill 3647 aims to fix this issue with no loopholes.
HB 2532- Relating to funding for the Marion Polk Food Share. House Bill 2532 appropriates funds to the Marion Polk Food Share, Inc. The purpose of this funding is to support the establishment of a new distribution center, ensuring that more families in the region have access to essential food resources. Marion and Polk counties face high rates of food insecurity, with many families, seniors and children struggling to access nutritious meals. A dedicated distribution center will help improve food availability and accessibility.
SB1067 - Relates to solid waste in Marion County. This bill authorizes cities within Marion County to control or direct the disposal, transfer, or material/energy recovery of solid waste generated within their city limits. This bill empowers local management processes, tailoring solutions to their specific community needs.
HB 3179, Relating to public utilities. HB 3179 empowers state regulators to set energy billing rates to the lowest level possible. The bill also allows regulators to consider economic impacts on customers, such as unemployment data and the number of customer disconnections for nonpayment. This bill gives regulators more options for using low-interest financing for necessary utility infrastructure, saving customers money.
I will continue to advocate for policies that make life more affordable, safe, and fair for all Oregonians. If you have thoughts on these bills or others, I encourage you to reach out—I want to hear from you!
I joined the Oregon School Employees Association members to testify in support of HB 3357 to ensure our schools are safer for the staff who support Oregon's students every day.
Public hearings are a wonderful way to make sure your voice is heard on bills that will impact you and every Oregonian. Your testimony—whether written or spoken in front of the committee—can make a real difference. Legislators rely on personal stories and expert insights to understand how proposed bills will impact Oregonians. By sharing your perspective, you help ensure that these policies reflect the needs of our communities. Your voice can help turn good ideas into real change for Oregon.
For more information on how to testify and upcoming hearing dates, either call our office to talk to someone from my team or visit Oregon Legislative Information System (Testifying specific information can be found here: Citizen Engagement How to Testify)
Let’s work together to make a difference! I know it can seem scary to testify, however I believe everyone can do if they set their minds to it.
Here I am testifying for House Bill 3357. This could be you too!
