Oregon elected a record number of BIPOC legislators. They insist Trump ‘is not stopping us’ - oregonlive.com

Oregonlive.com - BIPOC Caucus leaders gathered Wednesday to lay out their legislative agenda for the session that stretches from January to June, saying they won’t back down from their goal of creating a future “where every person, no matter their background, is valued and supported.” That’s even if Trump continues to try to sidestep Congress and the courts to cut off federal funding.

All 18 members of the BIPOC Caucus are Democrats, and 17 are from the tri-county Portland area. The 18th, Rep. Lesly Muñoz, is from Woodburn.

Rep. Virgle Osborne, R-Roseburg — who has described himself as mixed race, with one white parent and one Black parent — also isn’t a member of the BIPOC Caucus. He told The Oregonian/OregonLive that he views himself “as an American and I do not look in the mirror and see color.”

He added: “I believe racism comes from both directions; therefore, I do not join in on either side.”

4 Lawmakers call for responsible immigration polices

Oregon Catalyst - Today, Rep. Alek Skarlatos (R – Winston), Rep. Ed Diehl (R – Stayton), Rep. Virgle Osborne (R – Roseburg), and Rep. Darin Harbick (R – Rainbow) issued the following statement regarding the Democrat Party’s resistance to the enforcement of responsible immigration policy. “We are deeply disappointed by the out-of-touch views of today’s Democrat Party that labels the majority of Americans as extremist simply for supporting the enforcement of our immigration laws against violent illegal aliens. Securing our borders and upholding the rule of law to hold violent criminals accountable is not extreme—it’s simple common sense.

Helfrich announces intention to run for Senate, former opponent declares to seek House 52 seat again

Sandy Post - “The challenges facing Oregon demand bold perspectives and fresh leadership,” Helfrich said. “While our current representatives have served honorably, the pressing issues of our time—from economic stability to public safety—require new approaches and innovative solutions. The old ways of doing business in Salem have not delivered the results Oregonians deserve.”
