Friends,
We are wrapping up another busy week here in Salem. I wanted to change up the newsletter schedule to give a couple of quick important updates.
Pause on Wildfire Maps
Governor Kotek has ordered a pause on Wildfire Hazard Map appeals until after the session to allow time for our deliberations. This way, property owners won't waste money on legal fees for the appeals process in the event that the map changes. However, the March 10 deadline to submit an appeal to the Oregon Department of Forestry about the assignment of wildfire hazard zones or designation as wildland-urban interface is still in place. No attorney is needed for this first step. It simply ensures that those who wish to appeal have their spot in line in case the legislature makes no changes to the process during the session.
In order to preserve your appeal follow the instructions below. We are waiting to hear if the county will preserve an appeal on behalf of Deschutes County.

Page Program
The first House Honorary Pages will begin their days of service in the Oregon Legislature later this month. This exciting program has a long history reaching back to the late 1800s. Any student 12-17 in good academic standing can apply to come to Salem to spend one day performing duties on the House Floor, learning about how state government operates, and assisting with the day-to-day work of the legislature. At District 53, we always work hard to make sure our Pages have a great hands-on experience. We encourage any interested students to check out the website to learn more about the Honorary Page Program and fill out an application to participate.
