Friends,

My Republican colleagues and I are committed to ensuring fair and equal opportunities for girls in sports across Oregon. We have taken concrete steps by crafting and introducing legislation aimed at protecting girls' sports. Additionally, we have formally requested the Oregon School Activities Association (OSAA) to align with national standards to uphold these protections. Together, we are dedicated to advocating for our young athletes and safeguarding the integrity of girls' sports.

Protecting Girl's Sports

President Trump signed an executive order titled “Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports,” which bans biological males from competing against women in women’s sports by aligning federal policy with Title IX—a law that prohibits discrimination based on sex for schools that receive federal funding.

Republicans have introduced several pieces of legislation to protect women’s sports and are united in protecting women’s sports.

  • House Bill 2037 ensures that only biological women can enter women’s locker rooms and bathrooms and participate in women’s sports in school.
  • LC 3895 seeks to restore safety and fairness in women’s sports by prohibiting biological males, in Oregon's K-12 schools, from competing in extracurricular sports designed for biological females.
  • SB 618 is similar to LC 3895 and focuses on prohibiting biological males, in Oregon's K-12 schools, from competing in extracurricular sports designed for biological females.

Rep. Diehl and others introduce legislation to protect women's sports, locker rooms, and bathrooms

Oregon Lawmakers Urge OSAA to Align with Federal Policy on Women’s Sports

Given the federal executive order signed on February 5, 2025, to keep men out of women’s sports, and the NCAA policy change on February 6, 2025, restricting women’s competition to biological females, Oregon legislators stress the need for OSAA to align with these national standards.

Oregon needs to get boys out of girls’ sports. The OSAA needs to act immediately and decisively. This is about protecting the dignity and safety of girls.
