Love of Neighbor this Valentine's Weekend

Every February 14th, people in several countries around the world celebrate Valentine’s Day–a time to honor love. Romantic love is the type of love most celebrated–often with candy, perfume, or flowers. Children exchange Valentine’s greetings with their classmates and teachers. Parents often buy small gifts or candy for their children as a sign of love, as well.

There is also the love of friends that is a special gift. Friendships build our communities, give our lives meaning and purpose, and even boost our immune systems.

It is perhaps fitting that Oregon’s statehood began on what is now celebrated as Valentine’s Day, because there is so much to love about this wonderful State.  And when we love something, we commit to caring for it.

This legislative session is a time for us to show up and share our commitment to caring for our communities, our state, and for each other. We are all neighbors in this land.

This work is an honor and a privilege. I’m grateful to have the opportunity to do this with you, for the Oregon that we all love.

Wishing you the best, this Valentine’s weekend, and always,

Deb

Putting Patients First

Senator Patterson and Senate Bill 951, a bill in which she introduced, were recently highlighted in an article by Modern Healthcare. This bill seeks to curb the influence of Management Services Organizations in healthcare, to ensure that medical decisions remain in the hands of providers, not corporate investors. As Senator Patterson emphasizes in the article, Healthcare dollars should be spent on caring for patients, not on boosting investor profits.”
