Celebrating Black History Month on the House Floor
 |
|
In honor of Black History Month, I gave a remonstrance on the importance of continuing to push for equity in our state. While progress has been made, there is still work to do to ensure fairness and opportunity for all Oregonians. You can watch me speak here. |
Celebration at the Blazers Game
Had a great time at the Black History Month celebration at the Blazers game! It’s always great to step outside the Capitol and engage with the community in different ways. Go Blazers!
Session Update
The legislative session is in full swing, and I am staying very busy! From committee hearings, meeting and more, there’s a lot happening, and I appreciate everyone staying engaged.
Bills on the Move:
In committee we have been having and will continue to be having public hearing and work sessions. For your reference, a public hearing gathers testimony from the public on a bill, work session is when the committee discusses, amends, and votes on the bill.
-
HB 2748- Nurse title protection: Ensures the term "nurse" is reserved for licensed humans who meet Oregon’s statutory qualifications.
-
HB 2789- Nurse coordinated care: Allows registered nurses to bill for care coordination without requiring an order from a primary care provider.
-
HB 2948- Hannah’s law: Ensures that clinical nursing decisions in schools are made by qualified, licensed nurses.
Hannah is the inspiration for Hannahs Law. I’m honored to know her and her amazing family!
Upcoming Public Hearings:
HB 2792: Requires hospitals to report how much they spend on replacement workers during strikes or lockouts, increasing transparency in labor disputes.
HB 2957: This bill protects workers' rights and ensures they have adequate time to pursue claims.
I will have another one of my bills scheduled for public hearing in the House Committee of Behavioral Health & Health Care next week:
HB 2943: This bill aims to improve early detection and treatment by requiring hospitals to conduct HIV and syphilis screening when a patient receives a blood test in the emergency department, unless they opt out.
Talking to Constituents
Constituents from Divest Oregon came to visit and talk to me about Oregon's Pause Act. A bill I am proud to support.
