Dear Friends and Neighbors,

The 2025 Legislative Session has officially begun. I am excited to get to work on behalf of my constituents and pass laws as well as budgets to help the people of Oregon.

Opening Day
Kotek-2
On January 13, 2025, we took our oath of office and convened on the floor of the House of Representatives to hear Governor Kotek's State of the State address.

Committees
This week, the committees on which I serve hosted informational presentations to set the stage for many of the bills we will be hearing in the coming weeks.

Commerce and Consumer Protection

The House Committee on Commerce and Consumer Protection, over which I preside, heard a presentation from the Department of Consumer and Business Services – which regulates building codes, the financial sector, and the insurance industry.

Housing & Homelessness

The House Committee on Housing and Homeless received a thorough and data-driven report from ECOnorthwest on the state of housing in Oregon.

I was honored to attend the event to talk with two different groups about my experiences as a first-generation college graduate, a community volunteer, and a legislator.

Community Announcements

Severe Winter Weather

211

Dangerously cold weather with overnight low temperatures in the mid 20s is predictedthrough Wednesday, January 29. Washington County has activated inclement weather shelters as of 1/24/2025 at 2 p.m. that will open their doors to anyone seeking shelter through the winter weather event. These beds supplement the Washington County emergency shelter program, which currently offers over 400 beds/rooms to meet a variety of household needs including families with children, veterans, youth, and medically fragile individuals.

Shelters will remain open 24 hours throughout the severe weather event. Hot meals are provided for guests, no one will be turned away, and pets are okay (be prepared to work with shelter staff as locations' individual pet policies may vary).

Unhoused people seeking shelter should present in person at the locations listed below:

If someone outside is unsheltered and whose life appears to be in danger, call 9-1-1. Otherwise, if you see someone about whom you are concerned during cold weather call the police non-emergency number at 503-629-0111 and request a welfare check.

If forecasted weather continues to require activation of the Inclement Weather shelters, up to date information can be found here: wcor.us/SevereWeatherShelter.
