Sworn In and Getting Ready

Yesterday, I was officially sworn in to continue serving district 44 for my 3rd term. It is an honor to represent our community and work on behalf of the people I serve. With everyone sworn in, all the legislators were present for the first reading of pre-session bills -- a total of1,218 bills!

With the 2025 legislative session ahead, we have important work to accomplish, and I am excited and ready to get started. Session will officially begin on January 21st, 2025!

Week in Review

Rep. Nelson at PSU event speaking on bills

PSU Legislator Brunch

I joined fellow legislators at Portland State University for engaging discussions on the critical role higher education plays in shaping Oregon’s future. Ensuring equitable access to higher education for all Oregonians is essential to our state’s success. During the event, I also highlighted HB 3006, a bill I am proud to champion in collaboration with the Oregon Advocacy Commission Office. This legislation focuses on advancing diversity among educators and school staff, reflecting the rich diversity of our communities.

Providence Strike

Rep Nelson speaks at ONA rally

I was honored to speak at the Providence strike on Saturday! Nearly 5,000 Providence nurses, alongside 150 doctors and advanced practice providers from across all eight Providence hospitals and six women’s clinics, are standing up for fair treatment, safe working conditions, and the respect they deserve. I continue to urge Providence to engage collectively with all hospital and clinic bargaining units and negotiate with all striking workers, rather than selectively choosing to bargain with some hospitals while excluding others.
