Dear Friends and Neighbors,
The legislative "blackout period," which ran from September 6 to November 5 has concluded and I am happy to resume communications with my constituents. It has been a busy two months. I have included some photos and descriptions below.
December Legislative days are coming up from Dec.10 - 12. It’s a great opportunity to come to the Capitol, meet your legislators, and make your voice heard! We will be gearing up for the legislative session which runs from January - June 2025.
Glaziers, Architectural Metal & Glass Workers Apprenticeship Training

Toured the new Glaziers, Architectural Metal & and Glass Workers apprenticeship training center in Estacada. This cutting-edge facility is opening up lucrative career opportunities in the building trades.
Washington Co. Manufacturers Symposium

Attended the Washington County Chamber’s Annual Manufacturers Symposium in Hillsboro. This year’s topic was, “Oregon's Manufacturing Horizon: Shaping the Future with Policy, Development, and Talent.” There was an excellent panel discussion between Senator Janeen Sollman, Oregon Business Council President Duncan Wyse, and the City of Hillsboro’s Economic and Community Development Director Dan Dias. The topics ranged from the Oregon CHIPS Act and semiconductors to infrastructure and workforce development.
Genentech

Toured the Genentech manufacturing facility in Hillsboro. This 75-acre site employs 600 people and produces a variety of drug products – including individually-tailored cell and gene therapies. The facility also serves as a distribution center for one-third of the U.S. market.
OBI Roadshow
Participated in the 2024 Manufacturing Roadshow hosted by Oregon Business & Industry. We listened to a panel discussion about workforce development at Portland Community College’s Willow Creek Campus. We then toured the Epson factory in Hillsboro where they manufacture printer-related parts and ink.
Reading To the Hillsboro Online Acadamy

Read “Grumpycorn” to Ms. Maher’s kindergarten and first-grade class at Hillsboro Online Academy. It is a story about being kind to others, forgiving people who are rude to you, and learning to work together.
Metropolitan Public Defender Office

Our constitution guarantees the right to legal representation in a criminal case. Yet, we provide too few resources to our public defense efforts which leads to a shortage of public defenders and delays throughout the judicial system.
La Finquita del Buho
I am excited to resume our Small Business Spotlight. This month, we are featuring a community-supported agriculture (CSA) farm in District 30 that I have been a member of for years. La Finquita del Buho is dedicated to providing fresh produce while fostering a sense of community among its members.
Members participate in the farm’s harvest, creating a hands-on, shared experience that brings people closer to their food and to each other. Each harvest season, members come together to help bring in seasonal crops, sharing in both the labor and the rewards of locally grown produce.

 |
| La Finquita Del Buho is more than just a farm—it’s a model for sustainability and connection. Members receive in-season, farm-fresh produce while having the opportunity to engage directly in the farming process, making it a CSA that truly centers community and environmental stewardship. Visit their website to learn about how to get involved! |
