Out and About in Senate District 15
2-218 Field Artillery Mobilization Ceremony
Last Friday, I was honored to attend the 2-218 Field Artillery Mobilization Ceremony at Pacific University in Forest Grove. I am grateful for the service of our military and all that they willingly do in order to protect our country. As a child of former Navy parents and spouse to a former Navy husband, I also know the sacrifice that families make when loved ones serve. It was moving to see so many loved ones and community members come out in support.

Intern Corner
With a boat parade along the Seine, and an unfortunate downpour of rain to kick off this year’s summer Olympics, people across the world raced to their TVs to watch some of the world’s most talented athletes compete in the city of Paris. At its end, one athlete has yet again proven herself an international legend: Simone Biles. Born in Columbus Ohio, and competing at the Olympics since 2016, she has been a favorite of many to watch. This year, she claimed two of three gold medals won by the 2024 U.S. women’s gymnastics team (women’s artistic individual all-around, women’s vault), and dazzled us all with her stunning performance. But to viewers at home, it shouldn’t come as too much of a shock. Biles is the most decorated gymnast in the U.S., now with a record-breaking total of nine olympic gold medals, and thirty world championship medals to her name. She has been an icon in gymnastics for over a decade, only continuing to impress. Viewers across the country anticipate the sight of her gravity defying flips at every Olympics as she executes routines that bring pride to the country.

Be good to yourself and each other. ❤
Onward & Upward,
Senate District 15 lies on Kalapuya land. The Atfalati were the northernmost band of the Kalapuya that lived along the Tualatin River in present day Washington County. Many of the Atfalati descendants are members of the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde Community of Oregon today. The Indigenous Peoples of this land experienced a painful history of colonial violence, sickness and removal from their land. The Atfalati are the foundation of Oregon's past and we must honor them well into our future.
