Hello Friends,
I hope this newsletter finds you well and enjoying the summer months, county fairs and time with your family and friends. I have been busy attending conferences, community events and even to the RNC convention in Milwaukee.
Wildfire season is upon us in our great state, please pray for our communities across the state as they are battling some of the largest fires in the country. With great gratitude to the firefighters, ground teams, and all the agencies, local officials and volunteers who have given tirelessly the past few weeks. My thoughts and prayers are with each and every one.
Yours truly,

I had the pleasure of meeting Former U.S. Presidential Candidate Vivek Ramaswamy recently and had a fun exchange about Thomas Jefferson and John Adams. Did you know they both passed away on the same day?

Oregon Cattlemen's Association Conference
OCA President Matt McElligott, OCA Executive Director Tammy Dennee, State Representative Court Boice and State Senator Todd Nash
I enjoyed attending the Oregon Cattlemen's Association Meeting. I'm familiar with Farming and Ranching in Oregon, but still have a great deal to learn. The hard working Oregonians represented by this important organization play a very important part in feeding Oregonians and Oregon Families. It's important to me to understand those Farmers and Ranchers in my District - the mountains they climb as burdensome regulations unnecessarily expand in our State and hurt the people trying to make a living.
Oregon Logger's 2024 Convention
Timber is still King in Oregon and we're proud that Douglas County and District 1 remains the Timber Capitol of the World! This critical industry continually supports our Quality of LIfe, Law Enforcement, Schools and Roads. We have to do everything possible to support Logging Communities, Companies and Families! As of this writing Fire Season is in full swing with over 120 active fires. I'm praying and remain hopeful that overall 2024 will be a short and calm period and our great Oregon Forests will sustain limited damages.
Lebanon Veterans Center
My visit to Lebanon was to learn all I could in assisting with the new Roseburg location. This Vets Facility and the new approved Roseburg Vets Home will be very similar. We also had a very productive Legislative Veterans Caucus Meeting.
I encourage our young people to go into Medical Fields. Our Oregon Hospitals, Assisted Living Facilities and everything in between are short-staffed almost without exception. Health Care Providers are in great demand and it is a great career for those interested.
Douglas County Forest Protective Association and Douglas Electric Co-op
I recently met with both the Douglas Forest Protective Association and the Douglas Electric Cooperative Board of Directors in Douglas County.
I'm proud to sit on the "Keep Oregon Green Fire Prevention Board of Trustees."
We're on our toes for this coming fire season. On June 24th, District 1 was raised to 'Moderate Risk' for our southwest Oregon counties. This is a combined category set jointly by both the U.S. Forest Service and the Oregon Department of Forestry. Each year it seems our fire seasons get longer, and the last five years have averaged about 155 days. Last year, during the last two weeks of August, most will remember that Senator Brock Smith and I had nine fires going at the same time - three in Curry County and six in Douglas County. I cautioned and am asking everyone to be extremely careful as I believe we are due for a quiet year. I am hoping and praying for just that.

Farmers Feed Oregon Families
Farming, Fishing, Forestry and Fun (Tourism) are the Economic Mainstays that keep our part of Rural Oregon Healthy.
I greatly enjoyed this tour and am proud that I have solid support from all four or our 'key' industries. They know I work very hard to look out for their best interests and do everything possible to 'block' more government regulation, taxes and burdens on these wonderful employers!
Add to that, I have a 100% voting record and Endorsement of the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) and as we approach the 2025 Full Legislative Session - I and my staff are ready to continue our Full Service in dedication for the best policies for District 1.
Forestry Tour at Oregon State University
I learned a great deal at OSU. Forestry is Oregon's great advantage, Heritage and special History. We can do much, much better at Managing our fabulous Forests, preventing Catastrophic fires, Filling our Mills with Quality Timber, Employing Workers and supporting our Schools and Law Enforcement. I am concerned that way too much of our Forests are 'locked up' and left to burn instead of earning for our Rural Communities. The Environmental elites have way too much power and have used the legal system resulting in literally billions of trees being squandered, wildlife incinerated, watersheds and fish habitat destroyed and smoke inhalation hurting our citizens. As long as the people want me working for them in Salem - it will be my No. 1 priority - to save our great Oregon Forests!
