Heat risk

Today's heat risk

Hello-

We want to briefly touch base as scorching weather returns to Southern Oregon. PLEASE take the basic precautions you often hear: try to cool your home with early morning air, avoid robust outdoor activity in the afternoons as you can, drink water plentifully and often--all of the common sense measures. And please watch out for the wellbeing of people near you who don't have much social interaction, as well as other resources--especially the elderly or health-compromised.

The heat has triggered an emergency declaration for our region. Below is a list of resources we received from Salem with links that can provide important support. Job #1 is to make sure everyone in our community is safe and as comfortable as possible. Job #1+ is one for every single one of us, whether inside of government or out: to insist on the fastest possible transition away from fossil fuels, so that weeks of parched 100+ degree weather and the resulting wildfire impacts aren't a permanent fact of the rest of our lives. That's why climate-related action will be at the center of my work as long as I'm in the Legislature.

All my best to you. Stay as cool as you can, and help others as you see the need.

Jeff (Signature)

Senator Jeff Golden, Oregon Senate District 3
