Dear Friends,
With the Primary Elections behind us, the newsletter "black out" requirements have been lifted for the time being, which means that I can once again send legislative updates.
I can't believe there's only about three weeks left of school and summer is just around the corner. For me, that means harvest on the farm will be in full swing!
Next week, we will hold Legislative Days at the Capitol. The building will once again be active with committee hearings, constituent and lobby meetings. It will also be time to begin preparing for the long 2025 Legislative Session. My office is already working on bills that we will introduce in 2025. Many of those have come from constituents reaching out to our office while others are business and industry requests. The long session always brings with it a greater opportunity to make changes simply because it is longer in length. However, that also means the volume of legislation will be greater. My staff and I will be hard at work managing legislation we will introduce and watching out for other legislation that could negatively or positively impact HD 23.
Below you will find a few updates that I hope you find helpful. As always, please reach out to my office with any questions or concerns.
I hope you all have a great Memorial Day weekend!
Anna Scharf State Representative - HD 23
Please join me this Monday at the Oregon State Capitol for a Memorial Day Ceremony honoring those who have served and have given the ultimate sacrifice. The ceremony starts at 11am at the WW II Memorial. More details here.
If you are struggling with wait times while filing for Paid Family Leave, please reach out to my office. We may not always be able to solve your issue, but we will certainly try and help. Unfortunately, wait times with the Oregon Employment Department (OED) are longer than usual due to staff shortages and the new online system.
Recently, I signed a letter along with several of my colleagues to urge real action to get this matter resolved. You can read the letter here. I believe Oregonians deserve better. OED will soon be shortening phone hours in attempt to work through current claims. If you are waiting to hear from OED, I encourage you to have your phone available as much as possible in case OED needs to contact you to process your claim.

Sometimes congressional meetings happen in the hall just like in Salem. Meeting on-the-go with Congresswoman Lori Chavez-DeRemer and former Oregon State Representative Jessica George. Rep. George was in DC on a field trip with her children’s school.
