Alcohol and Drug Policy Commission Meeting
On Monday, I spent the day in Salem for the Alcohol and Drug Policy Commission Meeting. Representative Lisa Reynolds and I are both members, and this was an opportunity for the Commission to meet in person and discuss organizing strategy with the very talented and skilled professionals that we serve with. I am in awe of their experience in these related fields and their passion for helping Oregonians.

Hillsboro Youth Advisory Council Visit
I had a fabulous visit with the Hillsboro Youth Advisory Council (YAC) student leaders this week. These change-makers were full of questions about advocating for policy at the state level. I am so inspired by their drive to create positive change for the community. Today, I will be speaking at their Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Event for fellow high school and middle school students.
Community Action Washington County Kaleidoscope Event
On Wednesday night I attended the Kaleidoscope Event in support of Community Action Washington County. It was a great night spent with friends and community members coming together to support a great organization. Community Action provides critical services to low-income families in the areas of housing, homeless services, economic empowerment, family development, and early childhood care and education. They serve over 30,000 Washington County residents each year.
Hillsboro Hops Opening Night
Last Friday night was the opening night for the Hillsboro Hops. It was great to see so many friends and neighbors out in support of this amazing team. Go Hops!

A Brief History of Arab American Heritage Month
The initial initiative of the designation of a national Arab American Heritage Month was launched in 2017 by the nonprofit organization Arab American Foundation, gained support in a few states, but gained momentum each year. In 2019 Representative Debbie Dingell (D-Michigan) and Representative Rashida Tlaib (D-Michigan), put forth a resolution to Congress to proclaim April as Arab American Heritage Month. “It is my hope as a strong and proud Arab American in Congress that our nation can uplift our contributions in the United States by supporting Arab American Heritage Month,” states Tlaib. President Joe Biden officially recognized National Arab American Heritage Month in April of 2021, with the U.S. Department of State, members of Congress, and 37 governors issuing proclamations of support.

Onward & Upward,
Senate District 15 lies on Kalapuya land. The Atfalati were the northernmost band of the Kalapuya that lived along the Tualatin River in present day Washington County. Many of the Atfalati descendants are members of the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde Community of Oregon today. The Indigenous Peoples of this land experienced a painful history of colonial violence, sickness and removal from their land. The Atfalati are the foundation of Oregon's past and we must honor them well into our future.
