Thank You to Our Mayors!

Thank You to Our Mayors!

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Mayors and City Managers in Senate District 10: Mayor Hoy of Salem, Mayor Koontz of Monmouth, and Mayor McArdle of Independence, along with their City Councils, City Managers and staff, for all their work in expanding access to housing, and support for economic development.  There is much happening!  On another note, I hope you will get out and support our local restaurants and businesses as many of them lost days during the recent snow and ice storm.

Here at the Capitol, we have one more week until the beginning of the short session.  All the bills will be posted on the Oregon Legislative Information System by February 2nd and the Senate will have our first floor session at 8:00 am on Monday, February 5th.  Please reach out to our office about any questions or concerns that you have at 503-968-1710 or by e-mail at Sen.DebPatterson@oregonlegislature.gov.

We have a great team for the short session:  Megan Wai continues as Chief of Staff, and Cindy Kimball joins us as Legislative Assistant.  We are also joined by Samy Reyes, a student intern from Western Oregon University.  We hope you will stop by to stay hello!

Best regards,

Deb

January 25 Town Hall

We want to thank you all for attending for our Joint Town Hall meeting this past Thursday! Representative Tom Andersen and I spoke about our priorities for the 2024 Legislative Session and answered questions from the audience about upcoming bills. This has been a wonderful experience, and we hope it was for you too!

In the 2024 Legislative Session, I will be a champion for our community by advocating to expand social services and addiction treatment capacity in our district. My priorities also include getting Oregonians the care they need, especially seniors and those in need of drug treatment. Responding to Homelessness in Salem

The Salem Outreach and Livability Services (SOS) Team continues direct outreach to those living unsheltered, to share resources and alternative options to assist property owners with those who may be trespassing on private property, and to pick up trash where it can be easily accessed. Working alongside outreach, specialized law enforcement teams, and other partners, residents should see a focused response to conditions in the following areas:

  • Bill Frey Drive near Portland Road,
  • Fir and Kearney near the railroad tracks,
  • Front Street near Willamette River,
  • around Wallace Marine Park, Marion Square Park, and Lansing Park, and
  • In and around Downtown.

Connecting people to housing and shelter. On February 13 from 11 am to 2 pm, the Salem Housing Authority will host its Share the Love event at Wallace Marine Park. The Salem Housing Authority Compassion Action Response Team will be on-site among other partners to offer refreshments, coordinated entry assessments, and other resources, etc.
